What we store

Nothing about you. There are no accounts, this site sets no cookies of its own, and nothing you type is remembered.

The pages are static files served by a small Go binary. The only cookies on the site are the ones Google Analytics sets, and the advertising cookies described below if ads are switched on.

Ratings

Each tool page has a five-star rating. If you rate a tool, your browser sends the tool's address and a number from one to five to this server, which adds it to a running total and count for that tool.

No identifier travels with it, so the server cannot tell who rated what.

Your browser keeps a copy of your own vote in local storage so the page can show it to you again. That is all this site writes to local storage, and it never leaves your device.

Server logs

The web server records ordinary request logs — the URL requested, the time, the status code, the user agent and the IP address the request came from.

This is what any web server does, and it is used only to keep the site running and to spot abuse. Logs are not linked to any identity and are not sold or shared.

Your rights

Under the GDPR, the UK GDPR and the Swiss FADP you have the right to access, correct or erase personal data we hold, to object to its processing and to withdraw consent at any time; since this site holds no account, no profile and nothing typed into a tool, the only data in scope is the server logs and the analytics described below.

Analytics

Tool pages and the home page load a small script from a.regravity.com. This is Umami, an analytics package we run on our own server rather than a service we hand your visit to.

It records the page you viewed, the site that referred you, your browser, operating system, device type and screen size, and the country your IP address resolves to.

The first time you interact with a tool on a page, it also records a single event naming that tool, so we know which tools are actually used and not just opened. Those counts are what the popular tools page ranks.

Umami also records session replays and heatmaps: where the cursor moves, what is clicked, how far the page is scrolled and how a tool is used during the visit.

These are reviewed only to see which parts of a page get attention and where a tool is confusing, so the layout can be improved. They are kept on our own server, are not shared with anyone and are deleted on a rolling basis.

Umami sets no cookies and writes nothing to local storage, so it cannot follow you to another site or recognise you on a later visit.

Your IP address is used to look up the country and is not stored.

Every page also loads Google Analytics (gtag.js). It sets _ga cookies so it can recognise the same browser on a later visit, and records the page you viewed, the site that referred you, your browser, device and approximate location.

That data is processed by Google under the Google privacy policy. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out add-on or by blocking the script; every tool works the same either way.

Advertising

No ads are served on this site today. It has applied to show ads through Google AdSense, and this section describes what will happen when they are switched on, so the terms are set out before rather than after the fact.

Google and its advertising partners use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this site and to other sites.

You can opt out of personalised advertising at Google Ad Settings, or opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info. How Google handles the data is described in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.

Ads will not change how the tools work. The calculation still happens in your browser, and what you type into a tool is still never sent anywhere — that does not become negotiable because there is an ad on the page.

Third parties

Fonts are self-hosted, so no request is made to Google Fonts or any other font service.

The map tools load map tiles from OpenStreetMap; that request carries your IP address and the coordinates of the area on screen, nothing else, and is covered by the OSM Foundation privacy policy.

Apart from that, Google Analytics and the advertising described above, the site loads nothing from anyone else. If that changes, this page will name the provider and describe what it collects before it goes live.
