Free Maths Calculators

Averages, Primes, Quadratics, Fractions and Trig With Working Shown

Maths calculators that show the working, not just the answer. Add fractions, simplify a ratio, round to significant figures, check whether a number is prime, find the GCF or LCM, solve a quadratic, or get the mean and standard deviation of a data set. Every page explains the method so you can check a result by hand or learn how it was reached.

How the maths tools are organised

Arithmetic covers the everyday operations: fractions, ratios, rounding, significant figures, modulo, powers, roots and logarithms. Number theory is about whole numbers: primes, factors, the greatest common factor, the least common multiple and factorials. Algebra and geometry solves quadratic equations and right triangles. Statistics finds averages, standard deviation, the probability of combined events and the number of permutations and combinations.

Exact where it matters

Whole-number tools such as the GCF, LCM, factorial and prime checker work with exact integers of any length, so 50! or a 30-digit prime comes out digit for digit instead of as a rounded decimal. The fraction calculator keeps answers as fractions, and the quadratic solver gives surd and complex roots in exact form alongside the decimals.

Maths or math?

The tools use British terms first and the American ones alongside: highest common factor (HCF) is the same thing as the greatest common factor (GCF), and maths and math mean the same subject. Where a convention changes the answer, such as rounding half to even or the sign of a negative remainder, the page shows each version side by side.

FAQ

Do these maths calculators show the working?

Yes. Each calculator shows the steps or formula behind the answer, such as the common denominator in a fraction sum, Euclid's algorithm for the GCF or the discriminant of a quadratic, so you can follow the method and check it by hand.

Are the answers exact or rounded?

Whole-number tools use exact arithmetic of any length, so factorials, powers and primes are shown digit for digit. Decimal results such as roots, logarithms and standard deviations are rounded to about ten significant figures, which is more than any school or work task needs.

Is my data sent anywhere?

No. Every calculation runs in your browser, so the numbers and data sets you type never leave your device. The pages keep working offline once they have loaded, which is handy for homework or quick checks without a connection.
