Real zone rules, not fixed offsets

Each city is a named IANA time zone such as Europe/London or America/New_York, and offsets come from the time zone database built into your browser. Daylight saving changes on each side are handled for the actual travel date, so a trip in late March or October still comes out right.

Clock change versus distance

The number that matters for jet lag is how far the local clock moves, not how far you fly. London to Johannesburg is a long flight with almost no clock change, while a short hop across the International Date Line can shift the calendar by a day.
