Two input formats

The relationship diagrams, Sankey, chord, arc, network, family tree and flowchart, read an edge list. Each line names a source and a target separated by an arrow, and may end with a comma and a number for the weight of the link, which becomes the width of a Sankey band, the thickness of an arc or the strength of a network link. The hierarchy diagrams, treemap, sunburst, circle packing, org chart and mind map, read an indented outline: each line is a node, and a line indented under another is its child. Tabs or two spaces make a level. Leaves may end with a comma and a value, which the treemap, sunburst and circle packing use to size their areas.

Which diagram

A Sankey shows how quantities flow from one set of categories to another, a budget from income to spending or energy from sources to uses. A chord diagram shows flows between members of a single set, where each member both sends and receives. An arc diagram lays the members on a line and draws relationships as arcs, which makes long-range and short-range connections easy to tell apart. A network graph lets a simulation place the nodes so that clusters form on their own. For hierarchies, a treemap and a circle packing show the relative sizes of the parts, a sunburst shows both size and depth, an org chart shows who reports to whom and a mind map fans an outline out from a central idea. A family tree takes parent-of lines and arranges the generations in rows, and a flowchart takes step-to-step lines and arranges the steps top to bottom with decisions drawn as diamonds.

Colours and export

The Colours menu switches between a bold set, warm, cool, pastel and greys, the same palettes as the chart makers, so a diagram and a chart for the same report match. Text uses the system font. SVG is the format for documents, slides and web pages; PNG suits chat and email and comes in 1×, 2× or 3× the preview width. Copy SVG puts the markup on the clipboard. Everything is computed in your browser; the text is never uploaded and reloading the page clears it.
