Debt and Loan Calculators

Simple Interest, APR to APY, Amortisation Schedule, Debt Payoff and Loan Comparison

Calculators for what borrowing costs and how to pay it off sooner: simple interest and APR to APY for the rate itself, an amortization schedule for any fixed loan, extra payments and refinancing for a mortgage you already have, and a debt payoff planner for several debts at once.

The rate, the payment and the schedule

Every loan on these pages is worked out from three numbers: the amount borrowed, the interest rate and the term. The rate on an advert is usually the nominal annual rate (APR); the rate you actually pay once interest compounds is the effective rate (APY), and the APR to APY page converts between them. An amortization schedule then splits each fixed payment into interest and principal, which shows why early payments are mostly interest and why extra payments made early save the most.

Paying debt off faster

Extra monthly payments, a lump sum, refinancing to a lower rate and ordering several debts well all cut the interest you pay. The extra payment, refinance and debt payoff calculators show how much each saves and how many months it takes off, so you can compare them on the same figures. None of these pages apply fees or penalties you have not entered yourself.
