Generative Art and Mathematical Curves

Wallpaper Generator, Flow Field, Perlin Noise, Spirograph, Lissajous Curve, Fractal and L-System Tree

Pictures made from rules rather than drawn by hand. Every page here takes a seed number and a few sliders, draws the image in the browser, and lets you save it as a PNG at desktop or phone wallpaper size. The same seed and settings always give the same picture, so a seed you like is something you can write down and come back to.

Every Generative Art tool

Abstract Art Generator

Random shapes, lines, blocks and splatter in five palettes, seeded.

Celtic Knot Generator

Seamless Celtic knotwork tiles with over-and-under strands as PNG or wallpaper.

Dot Grid Pattern Generator

Seamless dot grid, polka dot and halftone tiles as PNG or 4K wallpaper.

Flow Field Generator

Particles traced through a Perlin noise field; the classic generative-art look.

Harmonograph Generator

Damped pendulum figures; set frequencies, detune and damping, save the spiral.

Hex Grid Pattern Generator

Seamless honeycomb outlines or tinted hex cells as a PNG tile or wallpaper.

Islamic Geometric Pattern Generator

Seamless Islamic star pattern tiles from square, octagon or hexagon grids.

Isometric Grid Pattern Generator

Seamless isometric line, diamond, dot or triangle grids as PNG tiles or wallpapers.

Julia Set Explorer

Click to zoom into Julia set fractals; export the view at 4K.

Koch Snowflake Generator

Koch snowflake and anti-snowflake to any depth; export as PNG.

L-System Tree Generator

Fractal trees from rewriting rules; depth, angle and randomness sliders.

Lissajous Curve Generator

Two sine waves at right angles; set the frequencies and phase, save the figure.

Mandelbrot Explorer

Click to zoom into the Mandelbrot set; export the view at 4K.

Perlin Noise Texture

Clouds, marble, wood grain and more from layered Perlin noise; PNG up to 4K.

Plaid And Tartan Pattern Generator

Seamless tartan, plaid, gingham and buffalo check tiles as PNG or wallpaper.

Random Walk Art

Walkers take thousands of random steps; the path becomes the picture.

Rose Curve Generator

The r = cos(kθ) flower; set n and d, save the petals as PNG.

Sierpinski Triangle Generator

Sierpinski triangle by subdivision or chaos game; export as PNG.

Spirograph Generator

Set the ring, gear and pen offset; the curve draws until it closes.

Truchet Tile Pattern Generator

Random Truchet arcs and diagonals as a seamless PNG tile or wallpaper.

Wallpaper Generator

Random abstract backgrounds, six palettes, saved at desktop or phone size.

Seeds

Random art is only useful if you can get the same result twice. Each generator starts its random number generator from the seed in the rail, so the picture depends only on the seed and the sliders. Regenerate picks a new seed; typing a seed you saved earlier brings its picture back. Because the drawing is done in relative coordinates, the export at 4K is the same composition as the preview, not a crop of it.

Noise-based art

The wallpaper, abstract, flow field, texture and random walk generators all lean on Perlin noise, a smooth random function that changes gradually across space. Sample it slowly and you get clouds; take its gradient and follow it and you get the flowing lines of a flow field; stack several octaves and you get marble and wood grain. These pages are the ones to try when you want a background rather than a diagram.

Mathematical curves

Spirograph, Lissajous, harmonograph and rose curves are parametric equations plotted with a pen. They need no randomness at all; the seed only picks starting parameters, and the sliders are the actual maths — gear ratios, frequencies, damping, petal counts. Small integer changes make very different shapes, which is what makes them fun to poke at.

Fractals

The L-system tree, Sierpinski triangle and Koch snowflake are built by applying a rule repeatedly; the depth slider is the number of times. The Mandelbrot and Julia explorers are computed pixel by pixel from a complex-number iteration; click to zoom in and the detail keeps coming. Deep zooms take a moment at 4K because every pixel is a loop.

Export

Save PNG re-renders the picture at the size chosen in the rail — common desktop and phone resolutions, or the preview size — and downloads it. Nothing leaves the browser; there is no upload and no account.
