What the section covers
An online name has to do two jobs an ordinary name never does: it has to be available, and it has to fit a platform's rules. The pages here are built around both. Each platform page knows its own constraints, the character limit, whether dots, underscores or hyphens are allowed, whether case matters, whether numbers are frowned on, and the conventions the platform's own culture has settled on, so a Reddit username looks like a Reddit username and a PlayStation ID looks like one of those. The mood pages, aesthetic, cute, cool, funny and edgy, cut across platforms and give a handle with a particular feel that can be checked on any of them.
How the names are built
Every page assembles handles from original word lists in the shapes people actually use: two words pressed together, a word and a number, an adjective and a noun with an underscore, a word wrapped in dots or x's, a leetspeak respelling, a short real-word alias. The word lists are ordinary English and coined words, never a list of existing accounts, so a generated handle is a new combination; whether it is free on a given platform is something only that platform can tell you, and each page says how to check.
Names for things you run
The second half of the section names channels, projects and machines rather than people. Blog, podcast, newsletter and vlog names follow the patterns that work in those media, a short memorable phrase, a "The X" construction, a pun that survives being said aloud. The server, Wi-Fi and hostname pages are for the infrastructure at home and at work, from a Minecraft server called something a friend group will remember to a fleet of hostnames on a naming scheme that scales past a dozen machines.
Privacy
Everything runs in your browser. Nothing you type or generate is sent anywhere, and no page checks availability against a platform on your behalf.
