Generate alien planet names: native names such as Kaa'thur, Tze'xa and Ombravaan, human survey names such as Vel Prime, Zhal'ek Secundus and Callix IV, descriptive names such as the Ringed Hive-World and the Drowned Cradle of Veyra, and homeworld names such as the Ixiri homeworld and Xa'tk, cradle of the Thromm. Choose a sound, soft, harsh, clicking or long, and generate up to a hundred at once.

Alien planet name generator: the patterns behind each name

An alien planet has two names, the one its people call it and the one the human survey wrote on the chart, and the generator gives both, since the story usually needs the moment when a character learns which is which. The native name is built from the same four syllable tables as the alien name and alien species pages, so that a world and its people sound alike: the soft sound for the garden world, Elalune, Sharia, Ovenea, Miraeth; the harsh for the hard one, Kethrax, Vorok, Gorvugh, Skaruk; the clicking for the hive, Xa'tk, Tze'ix, Ixi'oq; and the long for the ancient, Ombravaan, Nyrosithra, Quelorath, Ulmearion. The human survey name is what the chart says, a coined name with a Roman numeral or a Prime after it in the manner of a naval survey, Vel Prime, Zhal'ek IV, Kethrax VII, or the star of the shared setting of this section with a numeral or a lower-case letter in the manner of an exoplanet catalogue, Tarsis III, Veyra c, Kestrine d. The descriptive name is what the crew says when they cannot pronounce either, an adjective and a noun, the Red World, the Twin-Sunned Garden, the Ringed Hive-World, the Drowned Cradle, the Glass Waste, the Iron Furnace, the Hollow Sphere, the Storm Reef, sometimes attached to the native name or to a people, Ombravaan, the Frozen Shelf, the Marsh of the Skavane. The homeworld name places the planet as the origin of one of the alien peoples of this section, the Ixiri homeworld, the Thromm cradle-world, Xa'tk, cradle of the Kaa'thur, so that the alien from the alien name page has somewhere to be from.

Native name gives the alien word. Human survey name gives the chart name. Descriptive name gives the crew's phrase. Homeworld name ties the world to a people. The Sound select fixes the syllable tables, or on Any picks one per name.

There is no gender option, since a world has none.

The lists are original. The syllables, systems, descriptors and peoples are coined for this page and this section, and the names of no published planet, species or setting appear in them; a match with a film, a series or a game would be chance, and a name intended for commercial use should be searched first.

For the human-named world without an alien people, the planet name page; for the people who live here, the alien species page; for the star it orbits, the star name page; and for the catalogue designation alone, the exoplanet designation page.
