How the IVF Due Date Calculator works

This IVF due date calculator gives your estimated due date from the embryo transfer or egg retrieval date. Pick a day 3, day 5 or day 6 transfer, fresh or frozen (FET), and it also works as an IVF weeks calculator, showing how many weeks pregnant you are today and when to test. A day 5 transfer on 1 March gives a due date of 17 November.

How the IVF due date calculator works

With IVF the age of the embryo is known exactly, so the due date is more precise than one based on a period. A natural pregnancy lasts about 266 days from conception, and the embryo was already a few days old on transfer day. The formula is due date = transfer date − embryo age in days + 266. For an egg retrieval or insemination date, the embryo age is zero. Clinics also date the pregnancy from an equivalent last period, 14 days before conception, so the weeks match a natural pregnancy.

First example. A day 5 blastocyst transferred on 15 September 2026 gives a due date of 3 June 2027. The equivalent last period date is 27 August 2026.

Second example. A day 3 embryo transferred on the same date gives a due date of 5 June 2027, and an egg retrieval on 15 September 2026 gives 8 June 2027.

How many days after transfer can I test? Most clinics book a blood test 9 to 11 days after a blastocyst transfer. Home tests earlier than that can give false negatives or pick up trigger shot.

Frozen and fresh transfers use the same calculation. Your clinic's dating scan at around 7 weeks will confirm the date.

FAQ

Is an IVF due date more accurate than a natural one?

Yes, the start date is known exactly, so there is no guesswork about ovulation. Babies still arrive anywhere from 37 to 42 weeks, so the due date is a midpoint rather than a precise prediction.

Does a frozen embryo transfer change the due date?

No. What matters is how many days old the embryo was when transferred, not whether it was frozen. A day 5 frozen blastocyst gives the same due date as a day 5 fresh transfer on that date.

How many weeks pregnant am I on transfer day?

For a day 5 transfer you are counted as 2 weeks and 5 days pregnant on the day of transfer. For a day 3 transfer it is 2 weeks and 3 days, as dating includes two weeks before conception.

When should I take a pregnancy test after IVF?

Usually 9 to 11 days after a blastocyst transfer or 12 to 14 days after a day 3 transfer, or as your clinic advises. Testing too early after a trigger injection can show a false positive.

Will my due date change after a scan?

Rarely by much. With IVF the dates are already known, so clinics usually keep the transfer-based due date unless the scan shows a large difference, which can point to growth that needs checking.
