How the Testimonial Grid works

A testimonial grid lays out many customer quotes at once as a tidy wall of cards, sometimes called a wall of love. Paste a quote, name and role per line, choose the columns and star ratings, and copy clean HTML and CSS with no script.

Showing lots of real quotes together is strong social proof, because visitors can see that many different people are happy, not just one hand-picked customer. Mixing short and long quotes makes the wall feel natural.

How the testimonial grid packs quotes

The grid uses CSS multi-column layout rather than CSS grid. Each card flows down one column and then the next, and break-inside: avoid stops a card being split across columns. Cards of different heights pack together like masonry with no gaps and no JavaScript. The column count is a maximum: each column must be at least 16rem wide, so the wall drops to fewer columns on smaller screens by itself.

Markup

Each testimonial is a <figure> holding a <blockquote> and a <figcaption>, the standard way to pair a quote with who said it. The initials avatar is hidden from screen readers because the name is read right after it, and the stars carry a spoken label.

FAQ

Why do the quotes read down the columns instead of across?

That is how CSS columns work, and it is what makes the masonry packing possible. Reading order rarely matters for testimonials, but put your strongest quote first so it lands top left.

Can I use photos instead of initials?

Yes. Replace the avatar span with an <img> of the same size, add border-radius: 50% and object-fit: cover, and give it an empty alt="" since the name follows it.

Should every testimonial have five stars?

Only if the rating is real. Showing a genuine score from a review platform next to each quote is more convincing, and a mix of four and five stars often reads as more honest. Turn the stars off if you do not collect ratings.

Can I add review schema markup to these testimonials?

Google does not show review stars for reviews a business publishes about itself, so review markup on your own testimonials will not earn rich results. Keep the testimonials as plain content.
