How the Lottery Number Generator works

This lottery number generator makes lucky-dip lines for UK Lotto, EuroMillions, Powerball, Mega Millions, Thunderball, Set For Life or any custom game. Each line has no repeated numbers, is sorted like a printed ticket, and comes with the real jackpot odds so you know what you are playing.

How the lottery number generator works

Each line is drawn the way a ball machine draws: the main numbers without replacement from the main pool, then any bonus balls without replacement from their own pool. The tool uses a partial Fisher-Yates shuffle driven by the browser's cryptographic random source, so every combination is equally likely. The jackpot formula is the number of combinations, C(n, k) = n! ÷ (k! × (n − k)!), multiplied by the bonus combinations C(m, j) when the game has a separate bonus pool.

First example. UK Lotto picks 6 from 59. C(59, 6) = 45,057,474, so one line has a 1 in 45,057,474 chance of the jackpot.

Second example. Powerball picks 5 from 69 and 1 from 26. C(69, 5) = 11,238,513, and multiplying by 26 gives 292,201,338, so one line has a 1 in 292,201,338 chance. Ten different lines improve that to about 1 in 29.2 million.

How many lines would you need to cover every combination? Exactly the jackpot odds: 45,057,474 lines for UK Lotto, which is why buying more lines barely moves the needle.

Tips and pitfalls

No set of numbers is luckier than another, because every combination has the same chance. What you can change is how many people you share with: popular picks such as birthdays (1 to 31), sequences and patterns on the slip are chosen by many players, so a random line is less likely to split a prize. Game rules change from time to time, so check the operator's current format before relying on the odds.

FAQ

Are random lottery numbers more likely to win?

No. Every combination has exactly the same chance, whether you pick 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or a random line. Random numbers only help by avoiding popular picks, which means a smaller chance of sharing the jackpot if you win.

What are the odds of winning the EuroMillions jackpot?

EuroMillions picks 5 from 50 and 2 Lucky Stars from 12. C(50, 5) = 2,118,760 and C(12, 2) = 66, so the jackpot odds are 1 in 139,838,160 for each line you play.

Can I generate numbers for a lottery that is not listed?

Yes. Choose Custom and enter how many main numbers are picked, the size of the main pool, and the bonus numbers and pool if there are any. The tool draws lines and works out the jackpot odds for that format.

Does the generator ever repeat a number within one line?

No. Main numbers are drawn without replacement, just like balls leaving the machine, so a line never contains the same number twice. Bonus balls come from their own pool and are also never repeated.

How many lines can I generate at once?

Up to 50 lines per press. The stats show the jackpot odds for one line and, when you generate more than one, the improved odds for that many different lines, which still stay very long for every major game.
