Sci-fi Military Rank Generator

How the Sci-fi Military Rank And Unit Generator works

How the sci-fi military rank generator works

A military in science fiction is the military of now with a word in front of it, and the generator gives the four things a story needs from one, the rank, the unit, the officer and the formation the unit belongs to. The rank is the real rank with a future in front of it, a prefix and a rank, Void Marshal, Fleet Captain, Drop Sergeant, Star Admiral, Orbital Lieutenant, Grand Commodore, High Marshal, Line Captain, Deck Chief, Hull Bosun, Vac Specialist, Strike Major, Ship Gunner, Surface Colonel, Frontier Warrant Officer, or the rank alone, Corporal, Ensign, Midshipman, Brigadier, Cadet, Quartermaster, or a rank and a class, Trooper, Second Class, Private, First Class, Gunner, Third Class, Specialist, Senior Class, or an acting one, Acting Sub-Lieutenant, Acting Commander, Acting Sergeant Major, or a rank and a branch, Lieutenant, Orbital Guard, Captain, Void Navy, Major, Drop Infantry, Sergeant, Fleet Marines, Wing Commander, Strike Wing, Flight Lieutenant, Convoy Escort, or a sub, Sub-Commander, Sub-Marshal, Sub-Ensign, or the long one, Void Captain, Survey Corps, Drop Colonel, Colonial Militia, or a rank of a branch, Bosun of the Hull Corps, Chief of the Signals, General of the Planetary Artillery, Admiral of the Home Defence, which is a rank that everyone salutes and nobody can explain. The unit is the number, the place and the type, a number and a prefixed type, the 77th Drop Regiment, the 303rd Void Marines, the 13th Orbital Battalion, the 1st Star Lancers, the 42nd Hull Sappers, the 101st Strike Squadron, or an ordinal, a place and a type, the Ninth Meridian Lancers, the Third Halden Cohort, the Seventh Thule Dragoons, the Twelfth Kesh Rifles, the Fifth Sidon Light Horse, or a place and a type, Halden Skirmishers, Thule Grenadiers, Veyra Hussars, Ashfall Pioneers, Luna Guards, Orlane Yeomanry, Nova Ostia Boarders, or a number and a type, the 44th Fusiliers, the 212th Rifles, the 909th Company, the 22nd Wing, or a place, a prefix and a type, the Thule Frontier Rangers, the Callix Drop Pathfinders, the Kestrine Void Flotilla, or a number, a place and a type, 55th Aurelian Gunners, 88th Cassian Brigade, or an ordinal and a type, the Ninth Legion, the Twentieth Division, the Hundredth Lance, or a number, a type and a branch in brackets, the 13th Battalion (Home Defence), the 66th Regiment (Colonial Militia), the 404th Squadron (Convoy Escort), or a place, a prefix and a type, Seraphis Orbital Marines, Andrast Surface Guards, which is a name that goes on a patch. The officer is a rank and a name from the shared cast of this section and the unit, Commander Ilsa Calder of the 77th Drop Regiment, Major Orin Okonkwo of the 13th Orbital Battalion, Captain Sela Reyes of the 303rd Void Marines, or the short one, Colonel Okonkwo, 44th Fusiliers, Sergeant Mbeki, 212th Rifles, Lieutenant Quade, 9th Squadron, or a prefixed rank and a name, Star Admiral Tamsin Voss, Void Marshal Dorian Thorne, Drop Sergeant Nyx Castellan, Fleet Captain Petra Lindqvist, or a rank, a name and a branch, Lieutenant Kael Vasq, Orbital Guard, Ensign Maren Onne, Void Navy, or a rank and a name of a place unit, Captain Halloran of the Thule Grenadiers, Major Farrow of the Halden Skirmishers, or the long one, Hull Bosun Solano, 42nd Hull Sappers, or an acting one, Acting Captain Rook Mbeki, 212th Rifles, Acting Commodore Vesper Ryker, 1st Flotilla, or a rank, a name and an ordinal place unit, Colonel Ezra Holt of the Ninth Meridian Lancers, General Cass Nakamura of the Third Halden Cohort, which is a name that is read out at the start of a court martial. The formation is the thing the units belong to, an ordinal fleet, the Ninth Fleet, the Third Fleet, the Twentieth Fleet, or a place and a battle group, Meridian Battle Group, Sidon Battle Group, or a task force from the chosen words of the shared cast, Task Force Wren, Task Force Ledger, Task Force Tallow, Task Force Hesper, or an ordinal, a place and an army, the Ninth Thule Army, the Second Kesh Army, or a strike group, Strike Group K-7, Strike Group V-3, Strike Group Q-9, or an expeditionary force, the Thule Expeditionary Force, the Luna Expeditionary Force, or an ordinal prefixed armada, the Seventh Void Armada, the First Star Armada, or a convoy escort, Convoy Escort 41, Convoy Escort 88, or a home fleet, Home Fleet Kesh, Home Fleet Veyra, or a garrison, the Callix Garrison, the Port Calder Garrison, or a fleet at a station, the Ninth Fleet, Thule Station, the Fifth Fleet, Sidon Station, or a battle group from a word, Battle Group Sorrel, Battle Group Argent, since a formation is named by the staff and the staff have a list.

Rank gives the salute. Unit gives the patch. Officer gives the one who walks in. Formation gives what the unit belongs to.

There is no gender option, since ranks are not gendered and the first names in the shared cast are not sorted by gender.

The lists are original. The places, first names, surnames and chosen words are the shared worlds and cast of this section, and the prefixes, ranks, classes, branches, numbers, ordinals and unit types are ordinary English and ordinary military vocabulary of the kind every real army and navy is built from; no published fictional army, franchise regiment or real named unit appears in the lists, a match with a game, a film or a real regiment would be chance, since every real unit is a number and a type and every real rank is a rank, and a name intended for commercial use should be searched first.

For the callsign the officer answers to in the cockpit, the callsign page; for the operation the unit is sent on, the operation codename page; for the fleet the formation sails with, the fleet name page; for the ship the officer commands, the starship name page; and for the mecha the regiment fields, the mecha name page.
