How the Audio Bookmark Player works
This audio bookmark player is for long recordings: audiobooks, lectures, interviews and podcasts. Play the file, read the position off the panel when something matters, and type it with a note into the bookmarks box. Set the bookmark number to jump back to any of them. The list is remembered in this browser for that file and can be exported as text.
Scrubbing through a two-hour recording to find the one point you remember is slow. Bookmarks with a short note turn a long file into something you can navigate, the way you would mark pages in a book.
Adding bookmarks in the audio bookmark player
Press Play and the panel shows the current position. When you reach something you want to keep,
type the time and a note on a new line, for example 47:12 Definition of entropy. Times can be
seconds, minutes and seconds, or hours, minutes and seconds. Lines can be in any order; they are
sorted by time and numbered, and the numbered list appears in the panel.
Jumping. Enter a bookmark's number in Play from bookmark and playback jumps there at once, even while it is playing. Enter 0 to go back to the start. The panel also shows the last bookmark you passed and how far away the next one is.
Remembered per file. Each time you edit the list it is saved in your browser's local storage under the file's name and length. Load the same file on another day with the bookmarks box empty and press Play, and your list comes back. Nothing is sent anywhere, so bookmarks do not follow you to another device or browser — use Export for that.
Export. Export saves the bookmarks as a plain text file of time note lines, sorted. Paste it
into your notes, share it, or paste it back into the box later to restore the list. The same
format works in the podcast chapter marker and the audio cue list exporter if you want to turn
bookmarks into chapters.
Private browsing. In a private window, or with site data blocked, storage is unavailable; the player still works but the list is forgotten when you close the tab, so export first.
FAQ
Where are my bookmarks stored?
In your browser's local storage on this device, keyed to the audio file's name and length. They are never uploaded. Clearing site data, using a private window or switching browsers means they are not available, so export the list if it matters.
Why did my bookmarks not come back?
They reload only when the bookmarks box is empty as you press Play, and only for a file with the same name and length as before. Renaming or re-encoding the file changes that, so paste an exported list back into the box instead.
Can I bookmark a position without typing the time?
Not with a single click; bookmarks are typed so that each one has a note and can be pasted from elsewhere. The Position readout in the panel updates as it plays, so you can copy the time from there while you listen.
