How the Audio Declicker works
This audio declicker finds short clicks, pops and crackle in vinyl transfers, badly cut edits and voice recordings, and repairs them by rebuilding the damaged samples from the audio on either side. Set the sensitivity and longest click length, then check how many were fixed.
How the audio declicker finds clicks
A click is a sudden jump that real music and speech almost never make. The tool measures the second difference of the waveform, which is near zero for smooth sound and spikes at a click, and compares it with the local average over about twenty milliseconds. Anything several times louder than its surroundings and short enough is treated as a click.
Audio declicker settings
Sensitivity sets how far above the local average a spike must be. Higher values catch quieter clicks but risk touching sharp drum hits and consonants; lower values only fix obvious pops. The longest click setting caps the length of a repair. One to three milliseconds suits vinyl ticks and digital edit clicks; longer values handle bigger pops but may smear transients.
Checking the result
The stats list the number of repairs and the first few positions. Jump to those times in the preview and compare with the original to confirm nothing musical was removed.
FAQ
Will it remove continuous crackle or hiss?
It repairs each crackle impulse it can detect, which often reduces light crackle a great deal. A steady hiss or hum is a different problem; use the noise reducer or the hum remover for those.
Why did it change my drums?
Very sharp attacks like rim shots can look like clicks at high sensitivity. Lower the sensitivity a step or two, or shorten the longest click length, until the drum transients are left untouched.
Does it work on mouth clicks in voice recordings?
Small lip and tongue clicks are short, sharp spikes, so a sensitivity of six to eight with a one millisecond limit often removes them. Very soft, longer mouth noises may still need manual editing.
