How the Multi-Clip Audio Exporter works

Use this to export multiple clips from audio in one pass. Load one file, then type each clip you want as a start time, an end time and a name, one per line. Times can be plain seconds, m:ss or h:mm:ss. Preview plays the first region so you can check the cut, and Export encodes every region in the format chosen below and hands you a single zip. Decoding, cutting and encoding all happen in this tab; nothing is uploaded.

Export multiple clips from audio: how it works

The audio trimmer cuts one clip at a time, which is fine for a ringtone and tedious for a two-hour recording that needs a dozen pieces pulled out. This tool takes a list instead. Each line is a region: where it starts, where it ends and what to call the file. Overlapping regions are allowed, gaps between them are simply left out, and the lines do not need to be in order, so you can paste times straight from your notes, a transcript or a chapter list.

Fades. Every clip gets a short linear fade at both ends, ten milliseconds by default. That is inaudible as a fade but long enough to stop the click you would otherwise hear when a waveform is cut mid-cycle. Set it to zero for sample-accurate cuts, or a few hundred milliseconds for gentle starts and ends on music.

File names. Each clip is named with a two-digit index followed by your label, so the zip unpacks in order: 01 Intro.mp3, 02 Verse.mp3 and so on. Characters that are not valid in file names are replaced with a dash. A line with no name is called clip N.

Format. The format selector applies to every clip. WAV keeps the source exactly and is the right choice if the clips are going into an editor; MP3 is far smaller and encoded in the browser, which takes a few seconds per minute of audio. The progress bar counts through the regions while they encode.

Out-of-range times. A start before zero is clamped to the beginning and an end past the file's length is clamped to the end, so 1:30:00 9:99:99 Outro simply runs to the end of the file. Regions shorter than ten milliseconds, or lines that do not parse, are ignored and do not appear in the stats.

FAQ

Can I get the clips as separate downloads instead of a zip?

No; a zip is the only way a browser can save many files from one click without a permission prompt for each. Unzipping is a double-click on every operating system.

How do I cut at silences instead of typing times?

Use the silence splitter, which scans the file for gaps below a threshold and exports the sound between them. This tool is for when you already know where the cuts go, or when the sections are not separated by silence at all.

Does the preview play every region?

Only the first one in your list, so you can check the fade and the cut points. Move a different line to the top to preview that clip instead; the export order follows the list, so put it back afterwards if the numbering matters.

Will a long file work?

Yes, within your device's memory. Decoded audio takes about ten megabytes per stereo minute, and each clip is encoded one at a time so the peak is the source plus one clip.
