How the Birthday Countdown works
Enter a date of birth and this birthday countdown shows how many days are left until the next birthday, the age you will turn, and which day of the week it lands on. It counts from today unless you pick another date, and it handles 29 February birthdays in years without a leap day.
How the birthday countdown works
The calculator takes the birthday's day and month in the current year. If that date has already passed, it moves to next year. The formula for the countdown is then the next birthday minus the starting date, in whole days, and the age you turn is the next birthday's year minus the birth year.
Worked examples
For example, someone born on Friday 2 November 1990 who checks on 30 September 2026 has 33 days to go, and turns 36 on Monday 2 November 2026. As a second example, checking on 3 November 2026 instead rolls the count on to 2 November 2027, which is 364 days away and falls on a Tuesday.
Birthdays on 29 February
In a common year there is no 29 February, so the countdown uses 28 February, which is the most common choice for celebrating. In leap years the real date is used.
How many days until my birthday each year?
The same birthday moves one weekday later each year, or two after a 29 February, so the count and the weekday change every year. The table shows where a 29 February birthday is marked from 2026 onwards, with the weekday it falls on.

FAQ
Why does my birthday fall on a different day each year?
A common year is 365 days, which is 52 weeks and one day, so each birthday moves one weekday later. When a 29 February falls between two birthdays the gap is 366 days, and the weekday jumps two places instead.
Does the countdown include today?
No. The count is the number of days from the starting date to the birthday, so the day before your birthday shows 1 day to go and the birthday itself shows 0, with a note that it is today.
When do people born on 29 February celebrate?
This calculator uses 28 February in common years, which keeps the birthday in the same month. Plenty of people choose 1 March instead, and in some countries 1 March is the legal date for turning a given age.
