How the SAT to ACT Concordance works
This SAT to ACT conversion chart holds every row of the official 2018 concordance tables published by ACT and the College Board. Search a score such as SAT 1350 or ACT 29 to see its equivalent on the other test, for the total, Math, or reading and writing sections.
How to read the SAT to ACT conversion chart
Each row converts one score. Rows marked SAT → ACT start from an SAT score in steps of ten and give the ACT score it matches. Rows marked ACT → SAT start from an ACT score and give a single SAT figure plus, for the total score, the SAT range that maps to it. The Single-point pick column flags the SAT score to use when a college or form asks for one number instead of a range.
Why the two directions do not match exactly
A concordance links scores that sit at the same percentile for students who took both tests; it is not a formula. Because the SAT has many more score points than the ACT, several SAT totals share one ACT composite, and converting there and back can land on a slightly different score. Use the table in the direction you need rather than reversing the other one.
Sections and which test changed since 2018
The Math tables compare SAT Math with ACT Math. The reading and writing tables compare SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing with the sum of ACT English and ACT Reading, which runs from 2 to 72. The SAT went digital in 2024 and the ACT made science optional in 2025, but both keep the same score scales, and admissions offices still use these 2018 tables to compare them.
FAQ
What SAT score equals a 30 on the ACT?
An ACT composite of 30 concords to an SAT total of 1370, and the full SAT range that maps to 30 is 1360 to 1380. Going the other way, SAT totals of 1360, 1370 and 1380 all convert to an ACT composite of 30.
Is this the latest official SAT and ACT concordance?
Yes. The 2018 concordance is the most recent joint study by ACT and the College Board, and it replaced the 2016 tables. Both organisations still point to it, and the scores it compares keep the same scales on the digital SAT and the current ACT.
Should I send SAT or ACT scores to colleges?
Colleges accept either test and treat concorded scores as equal, so send the one where your score sits higher in this table. If your SAT total converts to a higher ACT composite than the one you earned, the SAT is the stronger score to submit, and vice versa.
Can I download the SAT to ACT conversion chart?
Yes. The CSV and JSON buttons give you all 324 rows, with the starting score, the concordant score, the direction, the SAT range where the source gives one, and the single-point flag, ready for a spreadsheet or a counselling handout.
