How the Farm and Farmer Generator works

This farm generator builds one complete farm at a time. You get the farmer, the farm name, everyone who lives there, their pets and working animals, a spread of first and second cousins, and the farm itself: acreage, named fields or paddocks, livestock, produce, buildings and equipment. Choose an era, a farm type and a size, or leave them on Random, and press Generate for a new farm.

How the farm generator handles era

The era changes every list. Medieval fantasy farms have names like Thistlecombe Grange, farmers called Bram Thistlewood, fields such as the Long Furlong, and gear like ox yokes, flails and cheese presses. Modern farms have names like Willow Creek Dairy, farmers called Sarah Campbell, paddocks such as the Dam Paddock, and machinery like round balers, quad bikes and combine harvesters.

The farmer and household

The farmer gets a name, age, years on the land, which generation they are, and a temperament. Most are married, some are single or widowed, and sometimes an elderly parent lives in. Children's ages fit their parents' ages. Older children get a role on the farm, from keeping the books to wanting to leave. The family size counts every person in the house. Pets are listed separately, with working dogs on livestock farms.

Extended family

Every farm comes with two to six first cousins and two to eight second cousins. Each one says how they are related, such as the daughter of the farmer's uncle or the grandson of a great-aunt. Cousins on the father's side often share the family surname.

Land, livestock and produce

Size sets the acreage, the number of fields and the size of the herd or flock. A smallholding has a handful of animals over a few acres. A large estate runs to thousands of acres and hundreds of head. Each field is named, sized and given a use that fits the farm type. Mixed farms combine two or three types.

Buildings and equipment

Buildings and machinery follow the farm type and era. A dairy gets a byre or milking shed and a butter churn or milk vat. A sheep farm gets a shearing shed and shearing tools. Larger farms get more equipment.

FAQ

Why does it only make one farm at a time?

Each farm has dozens of details, from cousins to field sizes. One full profile per click keeps it readable. Press Generate for a new one.

Does changing the options make a new farm?

Yes. Changing any dropdown builds a fresh farm straight away with the new era, type or size. Copy a farm you like before you change an option, or it will be replaced.

Can I use these farms in my game or story?

Yes. Every farm is generated fresh in your browser and is yours to use. Copy the whole profile into your notes with the Copy button.

Why is location not included?

The generator covers only the farm itself: the people, land, animals, buildings and equipment. That way the farm drops into any map, world or region you already have.
