How the Halo-style Name Generator works

A Halo name generator for Spartans, UNSC marines, Sangheili Elites, Jiralhanae Brutes, Unggoy Grunts and the smart AIs of the UNSC. Spartans get service tags, Elites get the 'ee family endings, Brutes get Latin names and AIs get the names of historical figures. Pick a kind and fill a fireteam or a Covenant fleet.

How the Halo name generator works

Halo gives each faction its own style. Spartans are known by a given name and a three-digit tag, like John-117 or Kelly-087, or by name and surname in later generations. Sangheili names have a personal name and a family name ending in -ee while serving the Covenant, as in Thel 'Vadamee. Jiralhanae take grand Latin names like Tartarus and Atriox, and Unggoy have short, bubbly names like Yayap and Dadab.

Sangheili names and the -ee suffix

In the older lore a Sangheili family name ended in -ee while its bearer served the Covenant. When Thel 'Vadamee was disgraced he lost the suffix and became Thel 'Vadam. The generator mostly gives the -ee form, with some -ai forms for variety. Titles like Shipmaster and Field Marshal mark rank.

    UNSC AIs and ships

Smart AIs in Halo are named after historical figures, often scientists or classical thinkers: Cortana, Serina, Roland, Isabel. The generator uses that style, and can attach an AI or a captain to a UNSC ship. This site is not affiliated with Microsoft, Xbox Game Studios or 343 Industries.

    FAQ

How do Spartan names work in Halo?

Spartan-IIs have a first name and a three-digit service number, as in John-117. Later Spartan-IVs, recruited as adults, usually use first and last names, like Jameson Locke. The generator gives both, plus some Spartan and Commander titles for flavour.

What does 'ee mean at the end of Elite names?

The -ee suffix showed that a Sangheili served the Covenant. Losing it was a mark of disgrace, as happened to the Arbiter, Thel 'Vadamee. Later games often drop the suffix. The generator uses both the -ee and -ai forms.

Why do Brutes have Latin names?

Jiralhanae names like Tartarus, Maccabeus and Atriox draw on Latin and classical history. The style suits their grand, brutal culture and their hierarchy of chieftains. The generator follows that style for Brute names and adds chieftain and pack titles.

Can I use these names for a Halo OC?

Yes. They suit Halo OCs, fan fiction, machinima and Halo-inspired tabletop games. A Spartan tag of three digits makes an easy starting point, and a few canon names are included for flavour alongside the generated ones.
