How the Star Wars-style Name Generator (Human, Twi'lek, Wookiee, Droid, Sith, Jedi, Mandalorian) works

A Star Wars name generator for humans, Twi'leks, Wookiees, droids, Sith, Jedi and Mandalorians. Each kind follows its own pattern: Darth titles for Sith, letter-and-number designations for droids, clan names for Mandalorians and long growls for Wookiees. Pick a kind and gender and fill a cantina.

How the Star Wars name generator works

Star Wars names are built to sound familiar but slightly off. Human names bend Earth names, Luke, Leia, Han, Cassian, and pair them with short surnames like Solo, Andor or Erso. Twi'lek names often use an apostrophe or a doubled form, like Bib Fortuna or Aayla Secura. Wookiee names are long, growling strings like Chewbacca and Lowbacca. The generator gives each species its own lists and patterns so names stay in character.

    Jedi, Sith and droids

Sith take the Darth title with a name that suggests darkness or ruin, Vader, Maul, Sidious, Nihilus, and the generator sometimes adds their birth name in brackets. Jedi get a rank, from Padawan to Master, with an ordinary name, because Jedi keep the names they were born with. Droids get the classic letter-number designations, R2-D2, C-3PO, BB-8, or a model code like TC-14 or IG-88.

    Mandalorians

Mandalorian names pair a personal name with a clan, like Bo-Katan Kryze or Sabine Wren. Clan Vizsla, Ordo and Skirata appear in the lists alongside invented clans. The names suit Star Wars OCs, fan fiction and Edge of the Empire or other tabletop campaigns. This site is not affiliated with Lucasfilm or Disney.

    FAQ

    How do Sith names work?

A Sith Lord takes the title Darth and a new name when they join the order, discarding their birth name. Anakin Skywalker became Darth Vader and Sheev Palpatine was Darth Sidious. Sith names suggest menace or cunning. The generator can show the birth name alongside the Sith name.

    How are droid names built?

Most droids are named by a model designation of letters and numbers, often shortened into a nickname. R2-D2 is an R2 astromech, C-3PO a protocol droid, IG-88 an assassin droid. The generator gives letter-number designations in these patterns, plus some real model codes.

    Do Mandalorians have surnames?

Mandalorians usually carry a clan name, which works like a surname. Clans such as Vizsla, Kryze and Wren are central to Mandalorian politics. Foundlings adopted into Mandalorian culture may take the name of the clan that raised them. The generator pairs given names with clans.

Can I use these names in a Star Wars RPG?

Yes. These names suit Star Wars tabletop RPGs, whether Edge of the Empire, Age of Rebellion, Force and Destiny or older d20 editions. Some familiar names are in the lists for flavour, so combine them with a new surname or clan for original characters.
