How the Stargate-style Name Generator works

A Stargate name generator for the galaxy beyond the gate: Goa'uld System Lords, Jaffa warriors, Tok'ra, Asgard, Ancients, Wraith and SGC team members. Goa'uld take names from ancient gods, Jaffa have split names with apostrophes, and SGC personnel come with an SG team number. Pick a kind and dial out.

How the Stargate name generator works

Stargate names follow faction lore. The Goa'uld posed as the gods of Earth's ancient cultures, so they take names from Egyptian, Norse, Celtic and other mythologies, like Ra, Apophis and Baal. Jaffa names are split by an apostrophe, like Teal'c and Bra'tac. The Asgard take Norse names, reflecting their role in Norse myth, while the Ancients have Latin and Arthurian names, like Moros, alias Merlin.

    Wraith and the Pegasus galaxy

In Stargate Atlantis the Wraith use names given by their human enemies or their own poetic names in the later novels, like Guide and Steelflower. Wraith hives are led by queens. The generator mixes those styles and adds hive names for a campaign in the Pegasus galaxy.

    SGC teams and ranks

SGC personnel are ordinary humans with military or civilian ranks, grouped into numbered SG teams. SG-1 is the famous one, but dozens more explore through the gate. This site is not affiliated with MGM or Amazon.

    FAQ

Why do Goa'uld use names of gods?

In Stargate, the Goa'uld are parasites who posed as gods to ancient human cultures, so the myths of Egypt, Mesopotamia and beyond record them. Ra, Apophis and Baal are Goa'uld in the show. The generator mixes real deity names with invented ones in the same style.

    What does First Prime mean?

The First Prime is the highest-ranking Jaffa serving a Goa'uld, commanding their armies. Teal'c was First Prime of Apophis before joining SG-1. The generator can add the title to a Jaffa name alongside a Goa'uld master.

    Who are the Tok'ra?

The Tok'ra are Goa'uld symbiotes who oppose the System Lords and blend with willing human hosts, sharing the body. A Tok'ra has two names: the symbiote's and the host's, as with Selmak and Jacob Carter. The generator gives both.

Can I use these names in a Stargate RPG?

Yes. They suit Stargate SG-1 Roleplaying Game characters, fan fiction and your own gate-travel setting. Generate an SG team and a Goa'uld enemy to start, then add a Jaffa rebel for an ally.
