How the Video Game Title Generator works
A video game title generator for game names by genre. A game title is the first thing players see in a store, so it needs to tell them the genre and mood in a few words. Pick a genre, from epic fantasy to cosy farming and racing, and generate a title for your game, pitch or game jam.
How the video game title generator works
Each genre has its own title style. Epic fantasy titles pair a grand word with an invented land, Echoes of Vaelmoor, or add a subtitle, Drakmere: Winter's Oath. Sci-fi titles join a space word with a cold, technical word, Orbital Salvage or Void Protocol: Dark Signal. Horror titles are short, quiet and creepy, Crawlspace or Mother Is Sleeping. Cosy titles are warm and gentle, Teacup Harbour or Maple Acres. Racing titles are fast and loud, Nitro Rally or Midnight Circuit. The Sequel mode adds II and a subtitle, for the next game in your series.
Say it out loud
A title should be easy to say, spell and search for. If friends can remember it after hearing it once, it is a good title.
FAQ
How do I name my video game?
Pick words that show the genre and mood. Fantasy titles sound grand, horror titles sound quiet and wrong, and cosy titles sound warm. Then search online to make sure no well-known game already uses the title you like.
Should my game title have a subtitle?
Subtitles help when a series has more than one game, or when the main title needs more detail. Void Protocol: Dark Signal tells players both the series and the story of this game, which is useful for sequels.
Why are horror titles so short?
Short titles feel quiet and uneasy, like a whisper. One or two plain words, like Crawlspace, make players imagine the scary parts themselves, which is often more frightening than a long, dramatic title about monsters.
Can I use these titles for my game?
Yes. The titles are generated from original word lists and are free to use for games, game jams, pitches and stories. Always check stores and trademark lists before launch, since a short title may already be in use somewhere.
