How the Abstract Art Generator works
This abstract art generator composes a new picture from a seed. Press Regenerate and the page composes a new abstract picture from a seed: circles, bars, arcs and triangles thrown onto a coloured ground in one of five palettes. Nothing is uploaded and no AI model is involved; the picture is drawn from rules in your browser and saved as a PNG at whatever size you choose.
Abstract art generator: what it does and why
The "abstract art generators" that come up in search are mostly image-model front ends: type a prompt, wait, get a JPEG with a watermark. This page is the other kind. It is a small program that draws with a fixed vocabulary of shapes, and the only randomness is the seed number in the rail. That makes it fast, it works offline once loaded, and every picture it makes can be reproduced exactly from its seed and settings.
Styles. Shapes scatters filled circles, rectangles, triangles and pie slices at random sizes and rotations, the Kandinsky look. Lines draws straight strokes and open arcs of varying weight on the ground colour, closer to a pen sketch. Blocks divides the canvas into a loose grid and fills most cells with a colour, sometimes spanning two, in the manner of a Mondrian or a Bauhaus poster. Splatter drops paint blobs with satellite droplets around each one, heavier towards the middle. Mixed layers blocks underneath, then shapes, then lines on top, which is usually the most finished-looking result.
Palettes. Each palette has a ground colour and four ink colours. Bauhaus is off-white with red, blue, yellow and black. Pastel is cream with candy tones. Neon is near-black with pink, cyan, yellow and violet, the one to use for a dark wallpaper. Earth is sand with brown, ochre and olive; Ink is paper with three greys and a single red accent.
Density is how many elements go down: at 1 you get a handful of large marks, at 10 a crowded composition. Because the seed is fixed while you drag it, moving the slider adds marks without shuffling the ones already there, so you can stop at the point where it looks right.
Paper texture adds fine grain to every pixel. A little makes flat colour look printed rather than rendered; on the Pastel and Earth palettes it reads as paper, on Neon as film.
Export. Save PNG re-draws the composition at the chosen size rather than scaling the preview, so shape edges stay sharp at 4K. The layout uses proportions of the canvas, so a tall phone export is the same seed recomposed for a tall frame.
FAQ
Is this AI-generated art?
No. There is no model, no prompt and no training data. The picture is produced by a short drawing program seeded with the number in the rail, which is why it appears instantly and why the same seed always gives the same picture.
Can I sell or print what it makes?
Yes. The output is generated on your machine and carries no licence. Export at 3840 × 2160 or 2048 × 2048 for a sharp print; the shapes are drawn as vectors on the canvas so they do not pixelate at size.
How do I get the same picture again?
Note the seed shown under the canvas along with the style, palette and slider positions. Enter the seed back into the Seed box with the same settings and the picture returns. Changing any slider changes the picture but keeps the seed.
Why do some Blocks cells stay empty?
About a quarter of cells are skipped on purpose so the ground colour shows through; a completely filled grid looks like a spreadsheet. Regenerate to get a different set of gaps.
