How the Wallpaper Generator works
This wallpaper generator makes wallpapers at your screen size. Pick a style and a palette, press Regenerate until you like what you see, then save it as a PNG at the exact size of your desktop or phone screen. The seed number is what makes the picture; write it down and you can make the same wallpaper again on any device.
Wallpaper generator: how it works
Most "wallpaper generator" sites are galleries of other people's images with an upload form. This one draws the picture in your browser from a seed and four controls, which means there is nothing to search through, nothing to download from a server and no watermark. Every image is yours the moment it appears.
Styles. Gradient is a smooth noise field coloured with the palette, the soft out-of-focus look that suits a phone lock screen. Waves stacks a handful of gently undulating bands from dark to light, like hills at dusk. Blobs scatters large radial glows that overlap and blend, the classic macOS-style abstract. Stripes lays wide diagonal bands of the palette colours at a random angle. The Detail slider means something slightly different in each: noise scale in Gradient, band count in Waves, glow count in Blobs, stripe count in Stripes. Try both ends of it.
Palettes. Each palette is four colours from dark to light, and the styles shade between them rather than using them flat, so a palette gives you a family of related wallpapers rather than one picture. Mono is worth trying with Grain turned up for a paper texture.
Grain. Adds film-style noise to every pixel. A little grain hides the banding that smooth gradients show on cheaper screens; a lot of it looks like a photograph. It is regenerated from the same seed, so it is part of the picture rather than an afterthought.
Sizes. The export list covers 1080p, 1440p and 4K desktops, 1080 × 1920 and 1290 × 2796 phones, and a 2048 square for tablets or profile backgrounds. The picture is redrawn at the target size rather than scaled, so a 4K export is sharp all the way in. Because the drawing uses proportions of the canvas, the phone version is the same composition rearranged for a tall screen, not the desktop one cropped.
Seeds. All the randomness comes from one number. Regenerate picks a new one; typing an old one back into the Seed box brings its picture back, provided the style, palette and sliders are the same. If you post a wallpaper you like, post the seed with it and anyone can make it at their own screen size.
FAQ
Can I use these wallpapers commercially?
Yes. They are generated on your machine from your seed and there is no licence on the output; use them on a client's desktop, in a presentation or as a website background.
Why does the phone export look different from the preview?
The preview is 16:9 and the phone sizes are 9:19.5, so the same seed lays the elements across a different shape. It is deliberately recomposed rather than cropped so nothing important is cut off. Set the export size to a phone size and regenerate to preview roughly what you will get; the aspect ratio of the on-screen preview is fixed but the proportions carry over.
Why does the 4K export take a moment?
Gradient and Grain touch every pixel, and a 4K image has eight million of them. Expect a second or two on a laptop. The other styles are near-instant at any size.
