How the Pop Art Generator works
This pop art generator turns a single photo into a Warhol-style grid: each panel flattens the picture into three bold tones, and every panel gets a different colour set, like the famous screen-printed celebrity portraits of the 1960s.
How to use the pop art generator
Drop in a photo, ideally a portrait with a plain background. Choose a Grid layout, from two panels side by side up to a three-by-three square, and pick a Palette. Gap between panels sets the dark border separating each panel, from none at all to a wide frame. Download the finished grid as a single image.
How the effect works
Each pixel's brightness is sorted into one of three bands: shadows, mid-tones and highlights. Every band is then filled with a flat colour from the palette, which mimics the limited inks of a screen print. Because each panel uses a different colour set, the same face appears in a run of clashing colour schemes across the grid.
Picking a photo
Faces with strong lighting and a simple background give the cleanest results, since the three tones pick out the shape of the features. Busy scenes turn into noisy patterns. If a portrait comes out too dark or too light, brighten or darken the original before dropping it in.
Private by design
The grid is built on a canvas in your browser and the photo is never uploaded.
FAQ
How do I make a Warhol-style picture?
Drop in a well-lit portrait, choose a 2 × 2 or 3 × 3 grid and the Classic Warhol palette. Each panel renders the face in three flat colours with a different colour set, recreating the screen-print look.
Which photos work best for pop art?
Close-up portraits with even, bright lighting and a plain background work best. The effect reduces the image to three tones, so strong contrast between face and background keeps the features clear and recognisable in every panel.
How big is the downloaded image?
Each panel keeps the photo's proportions, and the whole grid is scaled to at most 2,400 pixels on its longest side. That is large enough for social media posts, profile pictures and prints up to roughly A4 size.
Can I use a single panel instead of a grid?
The smallest layout is two panels side by side. For a single flat-colour image, the duotone effect tool maps a photo to two colours you choose and gives a similar bold, poster-like result.
