Video Face Blur
Blur, Pixelate or Block Out Every Face in a Video, Tracked Frame by Frame
OneTask is free, with no sign-up, and built by one person.
If this tool saved you time, a coffee helps keep new ones coming.
How the Video Face Blur works
This video face blur tool finds every face in a clip and hides it automatically, frame by frame. Pick a soft blur, chunky pixels or a solid box, and the cover follows each person as they move. The whole job runs on your own device, so the footage you are anonymising is never uploaded anywhere.
How the video face blur works
Each frame is passed to a face landmark model that runs in your browser. It returns the outline of every face it can see, up to ten at once, and an oval or rectangle is drawn around each one with the margin you choose. If a face is missed for a moment, the last position is held for a few frames so the cover does not flash off.
Choosing a cover
Blur softens the face while keeping the overall shape of the scene. Pixelate gives the familiar mosaic look used on television. Black and white boxes remove the face completely and are the safest choice when identity must not be recoverable. Strength controls how coarse the blur or pixels are.
Getting a reliable result
Detection works best on faces that are reasonably large and facing the camera. Raise the margin to cover hair and ears, and always watch the finished clip before sharing it, since people turning away or walking into frame can be missed briefly.
Rendering
The clip plays once in real time while each frame is processed, and the original sound is kept. Output is WebM in Chrome, Edge and Firefox or MP4 in Safari.
FAQ
Is my video uploaded to blur the faces?
No. The face detector is downloaded once and then runs inside your browser. Every frame is processed on your own device and the finished file is created there, so nothing is sent to a server.
Can I blur only one person and leave the others?
Not with this tool. It covers every face it detects. To hide one person, trim the clip to the part they appear in or use a cover style on the whole clip and combine it with the original in an editor.
Can someone undo the blur?
A light blur or coarse pixels can sometimes be partly reversed with enough effort. If identity really must be protected, use the black or white box, which replaces the face completely.
