How the Video Watermark works

This video watermark tool stamps your name, handle or logo onto every frame of a clip. Type the text or drop a logo image alongside the video, pick a corner, size and opacity, press Render and download. The watermarked copy is made in your browser and never uploaded.

A watermark does two jobs. It tells viewers where a clip came from when it is reposted without credit, and it makes casual theft less attractive, because cropping out a well-placed mark ruins the shot. Photographers, video creators, estate agents and agencies sending client previews all use one.

How the video watermark tool works

The video plays through once while each frame is drawn onto a canvas, with the watermark painted on top, and the canvas is recorded along with the sound. Text is drawn in a semi-bold system font in white with a soft dark shadow, so it stays readable on light and dark footage alike. A logo is drawn at twice the text size, keeping its own proportions, and PNG transparency is respected.

Size is a percentage of the video's height, so the mark looks the same on a 720p and a 4K version of the same clip. The margin from the edge is 3% of the height.

Choosing size and opacity

Use Size Opacity
Subtle credit on social posts 3–4% 50–70%
Brand logo in a corner 4–6% 70–90%
Client preview, hard to remove 8–15%, Centre 30–50%
Copyright notice on stock footage 5–8%, Centre 25–40%

A large, faint mark in the centre is the hardest to crop or blur away. A small corner mark is the least distracting but the easiest to remove.

Where to place it

Tips and pitfalls

Use a PNG logo with a transparent background. A JPEG logo brings its white box with it. White or light logos work best, because the footage behind is usually darker.

Leave the text box empty to use only the logo, or simply drop a logo; when a logo is present it is used instead of the text.

A watermark is not protection on its own. It deters casual reposting and proves origin, but a determined person can crop, blur or paint over a corner mark.

Need to hide something instead? The blur video region tool covers a face, plate or old logo.

How to read the result

The stats show the mark used, its position and the new file size. Play the result to check the mark is legible across the whole clip, then Download.

For a title or caption that appears for part of the clip, use add text to video.

FAQ

How do I add a logo to a video?

Select the video and your logo image together, or drag both into the drop zone at once. Choose the corner, size and opacity, then press Render. The logo is drawn on every frame, and transparent areas of a PNG stay transparent.

Can I watermark a video without uploading it?

Yes. This tool does everything in your browser: the video is decoded, marked and recorded on your own device. Nothing is sent to a server, so unreleased footage and client work stay private.

What opacity should a watermark be?

Between 50% and 70% suits most corner credits: visible but not distracting. For previews you want to protect, use a large centred mark at 30% to 50%, which is harder to remove.

Does adding a watermark lower the video quality?

Slightly. The video is re-encoded at about 6 Mbit/s with its original resolution and sound. That is close to the source for phone and screen recordings, though very detailed 4K will soften a little.
