How the House Cleaning Cost Calculator works

This house cleaning cost calculator estimates how many hours a clean takes for your floor area and what it costs at the hourly rate you enter. Choose a regular clean, a deep clean or a move-out clean and the number of visits. It has no built-in prices, because rates vary widely by town, so get local quotes and enter the rate you are offered.

Most cleaners and agencies charge by the hour with a minimum visit, often two hours, while some quote a fixed price per job for deep and end-of-tenancy cleans. Knowing roughly how many hours the job should take lets you compare a fixed quote with an hourly one.

How the house cleaning cost calculator works

The formula is hours = floor area ÷ 45 m² per hour × job factor, rounded up to the next half hour with a two-hour minimum; cost = hours × your rate × visits. The job factor is 1 for a regular clean, 2 for a deep clean and 2.5 for a move-out clean. For example, a 100 m² home at 25 an hour needs about 2.5 hours, 62.50 a visit and 250.00 for four visits. A second example: a 1,500 ft² home deep cleaned at 30 an hour takes about 6.5 hours, 195.00.

The pace assumes one cleaner and an average level of clutter; two cleaners take about half the time for a similar total cost. Kitchens, bathrooms, ovens and inside cupboards add more time than open floor, so a small flat with a big kitchen can take longer than the area suggests. Ask how many hours a quote includes before you book.

FAQ

How long does it take to clean a house?

A regular clean of a typical 100 m² (1,100 ft²) home takes one cleaner about two to three hours. A deep clean takes roughly twice as long, and an end-of-tenancy clean with oven, windows and inside cupboards can take a full day for a larger house.

What is included in a deep clean?

A deep clean covers the regular dusting, vacuuming, mopping, kitchen and bathroom work, plus the places a weekly clean skips: skirting boards, door frames, behind appliances, inside the oven and fridge, limescale, grout and light fittings. Agree a written list before the day.

Is it cheaper to pay by the hour or a fixed price?

It depends on how fast the cleaner works and how much there is to do. Use the estimated hours to turn a fixed quote into an effective hourly rate, then compare it with hourly quotes from other local cleaners for the same list of tasks.
