How the SWTOR name generator works
Light-side knights get calm, balanced names, Aelis Tallon. Dark-side sorcerers get sharp, sibilant names and the title Lord, Lord Kaelth. Smugglers get quick, charming names that sound good on a wanted poster, Nova Riggs. Bounty hunters get hard, clipped names and often go by one name. Troopers get solid military surnames and ranks, Sergeant Brannock. Agents get forgettable cover names, or a numbered codename like Asset Four. Legacy names give all your characters on a server a shared family surname, so the generator makes them short and weighty, Varkos or Dravane.

A legacy name is a surname shared by every character on your account on the same server. It links your characters into one family story, so pick something short and meaningful that works for knights and sorcerers alike.
How do dark-side names sound different?
Dark-side names in the Old Republic style use sharper sounds, like x, z, v and th, and often take a title such as Lord. Light-side names sound softer and more balanced, which makes the contrast between the two sides instantly clear.
Can a bounty hunter have just one name?
Yes. Many bounty hunters in this style go by a single name or a nickname, because a hunter's reputation matters more than a family. The generator gives one-name results for hunters so they sound mysterious and dangerous.
What are the name rules in SWTOR?
SWTOR lets you choose a first name when you create a character, using letters and one apostrophe or hyphen, up to sixteen characters. Your legacy name then acts as a shared surname across your characters on that server.
