How the 3D Text Generator works
This 3D text generator turns words into solid models. Type a word, a name or a short slogan and it becomes solid three-dimensional lettering with depth, bevelled edges and studio lighting. Choose the font, colour and finish, orbit to the angle you like and download a PNG with a transparent background at up to 4K, ready for a thumbnail, a hero image or a logo lockup. Everything is rendered in your browser.
3D text generator: fonts and text
Three open-licence typefaces are included: Helvetiker, a neutral sans-serif close to Helvetica; Optimer, a humanist sans with a slight flare; and Gentilis, a serif in the spirit of Gentium. Each comes in Regular and Bold. Type up to four lines by separating them with a vertical bar, for example "SUMMER | SALE"; the lines are centred and stacked. The fonts cover Latin letters, digits and common punctuation; characters outside that set are skipped.
Depth, bevel and finish
Depth is the extrusion, how far the letters extend backwards, in units of the letter height, so 0.3 is a slab about a third as deep as a capital is tall. Bevel rounds the front and back edges and catches the light; a small value gives a subtle chamfer, the maximum a soft, chunky look. Matte is a plaster or plastic surface, Glossy adds a sharp highlight and Metal makes the colour a reflective metallic, which works best on Dark or Light backgrounds where the reflections have something to pick up.
Lighting and background
A key light casts a soft shadow on the floor, with a fill and a rim light so the depth of the extrusion reads clearly. Transparent removes the backdrop and the floor shadow and saves a PNG with an alpha channel; Dark, Light and White give a finished image with a floor shadow. Drag to orbit, scroll to zoom, and press Fit view after changing the text to re-centre it.
Downloading
Download PNG renders the current view at preview size, twice preview size or 3840 pixels wide. For a logo that will be scaled, take the 4K transparent version and let the target application downsample it.
Using the fonts
The three fonts are the MgOpen typefaces published under a free licence; the licence text is available on the licences page. The renders you make are yours to use for any purpose.
Privacy
Nothing is sent anywhere. The text is turned into geometry and rendered by your own graphics card, and the page works offline once loaded.
FAQ
Can I use my own font?
Not in this tool; it ships with three typefaces converted to the format the renderer needs. For a logo that already exists as artwork, the SVG to 3D tool extrudes any vector shape, including text converted to outlines in your design program.
How do I get a transparent PNG?
Leave the background on Transparent, the default, and the download has an alpha channel and no floor shadow. Switch to Dark, Light or White for a finished image with a shadow.
Why are some characters missing?
The included fonts cover the basic Latin alphabet, digits and common punctuation. Accented letters, other scripts and emoji are not in the glyph set and are dropped rather than rendered as boxes.
How do I make more than one line?
Separate lines with a vertical bar character, for example "OPEN | 24 HOURS". Up to four lines are stacked and centred, each at the same size, with spaces around the bar trimmed away so the lines line up cleanly.
