How the Add Shadow to Image works
Add shadow to image files in seconds: a soft drop shadow lifts a product cut-out, logo or screenshot off the page. Blur, offset, colour and opacity are all adjustable, and the canvas grows so the shadow is never clipped.
How to add shadow to image cut-outs
Choose an image and a soft shadow appears beneath it. Blur sets how soft the shadow edge is, the offset sliders move it right, left, up or down, and Opacity controls how dark it looks. Choose a coloured shadow for a playful, flat-design look.
Shadows follow transparency
For PNGs with a transparent background, such as a product photo from the background remover, the shadow follows the outline of the object rather than a rectangle. For ordinary photos and screenshots it makes a classic floating card.
Transparent or white background
The default Transparent background keeps the shadow semi-see-through so it blends into any page or slide. Choose White when you need a flat image for marketplaces, email or documents that do not support transparency.
Private by design
The shadow is drawn on a canvas in your browser, and the image is never uploaded.
FAQ
Why is the downloaded image bigger than my original?
The tool adds padding around the picture so the blurred shadow has room to fade out. The extra space is transparent, or white if you chose a white background, and the original image itself is not scaled.
What settings look most natural?
Real shadows are soft and fall slightly downward. A blur around 30, a small vertical offset, a smaller horizontal offset and an opacity between 30% and 50% look natural for most product shots and screenshots.
Can I add a shadow to a JPG?
Yes, though the shadow will surround the whole rectangle because a JPG has no transparency. Remove the background first if you want the shadow to follow the outline of an object in the photo.
What file format is the result?
The output is always a PNG so the soft shadow edges keep their transparency. PNG files are larger than JPGs, but they show the shadow cleanly on any background colour.
