Add text to image: getting a good result

Putting a caption on a picture is the simplest possible edit, and yet phone galleries bury it and desktop editors need five clicks and a layer. This page does that one thing: your photo, your words, a handful of typographic controls that actually matter, and a download at the original resolution. The photo is opened locally and never uploaded.

Size as a percentage. The size slider is a fraction of the image width rather than a point size, so 8% means the capital letters are about a twelfth of the picture wide whether the picture is 800 or 4000 pixels. That makes a setting transferable between photos, which point sizes are not.

Outline and shadow. Light text on a light sky disappears; the two fixes are a dark outline, which is painted under the fill so it never thins the letters, and a soft drop shadow. The outline thickness and shadow blur scale with the text size. Most photos want one or the other; posters and memes use both.

Wrapping. The text box starts at 80% of the picture width and wraps long lines inside it. Drag the left and right handles to make it narrower or wider; the corner handles scale the whole thing. Alignment applies within the box, so a left-aligned caption still sits wherever you have dragged the box.

More boxes. Add text drops a plain second box that inherits nothing from the side panel; click it to style it in the Selected item panel. This is how you get a headline in one font and a credit line in another.

Privacy. The image is read from your disk by the browser and drawn onto a canvas. Nothing is transmitted and the download is generated in the tab.
