How the Add Text to Video works

Add text to video in a few clicks. Type a title or caption, choose its size, position, colour and background, set when it should appear and press Render. The page draws the text onto every frame and gives you a new video to download. Nothing is uploaded, so private clips stay on your device.

Add text to video: titles, labels and captions

Most social video is watched with the sound off, so a line of text often carries the message: the name of a place, a product price, "Watch till the end", or the speaker's name and role. Long lines wrap to fit the frame, and pressing Enter in the text box starts a new line.

Making text readable

Text over moving footage needs contrast. "Shadow" adds a soft dark edge that keeps white text readable over most scenes. "Box" puts a solid band behind the text, which is safest over busy or bright backgrounds. Size is a percentage of the video's height, so 7% looks the same on a phone clip and a 4K file. 5–8% suits captions; 10–15% suits a title card.

Timing

Leave "Show from" at 0 and "Until" blank to keep the text up for the whole clip. Otherwise give a start and end in seconds, for example 0 to 3 for an opening title. Run the page again on its own output to add a second line at a different time.

For a full set of timed subtitles from an SRT file, use the subtitle burner. For a logo or handle in a corner for the whole video, use the video watermark tool. Rendering plays the clip once in real time and the result is WebM in Chrome, Edge and Firefox and MP4 in Safari.

FAQ

Can I add more than one piece of text?

One text block is drawn per render. To add a second caption at another time, download the result and run it through the page again with the new text and times. Each pass re-encodes the video once.

Where is the safe area for text on TikTok and Reels?

The bottom fifth of vertical video is usually covered by the caption and buttons, and the right edge by the like and share icons. Choose Middle or Top for important text on vertical clips.

Can I choose a different font?

The page uses your system's standard sans-serif font, which is clear at small sizes on every screen. Custom fonts are not supported, so the text looks the same on every computer that renders it.
