How the Business Card Maker works
This business card maker produces a print-ready design in minutes. Type your name, role, company and contact lines and the card lays itself out: name large, role in the accent colour, company spaced out in capitals, details in the opposite corner. Choose where the colour band goes, pick the font and three colours, and add a logo with Add image — it lands top right and can be dragged and resized. Every element can also be clicked and moved by hand. Download PNG gives a 300 dpi image at the card's exact print size, ready for any online printer or a local print shop.
How the business card maker works
A business card is a small, fixed-size print job with a handful of text lines, which makes it one of the easiest things to design well with a template and one of the most annoying to design in a general tool that does not know the size. This page knows the sizes and does the layout; you supply the words.
Sizes and resolution. The standard US and UK card is 3.5 by 2 inches; the European standard is 85 by 55 millimetres; square and vertical cards are less common but printers take them. Each size here is set up at 300 pixels per inch, the resolution printers ask for, so the standard card is 1050 by 600 pixels. The PNG you download carries that pixel size; if a printer's upload form wants the DPI written into the file, pass it through the image DPI changer set to 300, which does not change the pixels.
Bleed. Printers trim cards from a larger sheet and the cut wanders by a millimetre or so. If your card has a colour band or background that runs to the edge, ask the printer whether they need bleed — usually 3 mm extra all round — and if so, choose No band or set the card colour to match the band so a slightly off cut does not show. Text should stay at least 3 mm from the edge, which the layout's margins already respect.
Typography. The name is set at a tenth of the card's short side, the role at half that in the accent colour, and the company name small with wide letter spacing, a common device that reads as a wordmark without needing a logo. The details block is right-aligned in the bottom corner so its ragged lengths sit against the edge. Helvetica and Arial give the expected corporate look; Georgia or Garamond a more traditional one.
Logos. Add image places the logo at a fifth of the card height in the top right; drag it, resize it by the corners, or use Backward to put it behind the band. A PNG with a transparent background is best; a JPEG will show a white box.
Two sides. Make the front, download, then change the text — say, just the company name and a tagline on a plain background — and download again for the back. Printers accept two separate files.
Privacy. Names, phone numbers and the logo stay in your browser; there is no upload and no watermark.
FAQ
What file format do printers want?
Most online printers accept PNG or JPEG at 300 dpi; some prefer PDF. For PDF, place the PNG in any document at 3.5 by 2 inches, or ask the printer — nearly all will take the PNG.
Can I use CMYK colours?
The browser works in RGB, so no. Printers convert; bright greens and oranges can come out a little duller. If a colour must match exactly, give the printer the Pantone reference separately.
How do I add a QR code?
Generate one as a PNG with a QR code tool, then use Add image to place it on the card. Keep it at least 15 mm across so phones read it.
Why is the text cut off?
A long name or a long email address at the default size can run past the margin. Reduce the font size by clicking the line and using the Selected item panel, or shorten the text. The layout does not shrink text automatically.
Is there a watermark or a sign-up?
No. The card is composed in the page and downloaded straight from it; the site never sees your details. The PNG is exactly what is on the canvas, at full print resolution, with nothing added.
