How the Circle Crop Image works
Circle crop image files in one step: drop a photo in and get a round PNG with transparent corners, ready for a profile picture, a team page or a slide. Oval and rounded-corner shapes are one click away.
How to circle crop image files
Drop in a JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC or any other image your browser can open. With Shape on Circle, the tool takes the largest square from the centre of the photo and cuts a perfect circle out of it. Everything outside the circle is transparent, so the result sits cleanly on any background colour. Click the download button and you have a PNG at the full resolution of the square, with no resampling.
Circle, ellipse or rounded corners
Ellipse keeps the whole frame and fits an oval to it, so a landscape photo becomes a wide oval and a portrait one a tall oval. Rounded corners keeps the rectangle and rounds each corner by a percentage of the shorter side: 5 to 10 percent gives the soft corners used on app cards, and 50 percent turns a square into a circle and a rectangle into a pill shape.
Why the output is always PNG
Only PNG and WebP can store transparency, and PNG is the format every app, website and slide program accepts. A JPG would fill the transparent corners with white or black, which defeats the point if the picture is going onto a coloured page.
Centring your subject
The circle is taken from the centre of the photo. If your subject is off to one side, crop it first with the aspect ratio cropper to a square around the face, then bring that square here.
Private by design
Everything runs in your browser. The photo is never uploaded, and EXIF metadata including location is dropped from the downloaded PNG.
FAQ
How do I make a round profile picture?
Choose Circle, drop in your photo and download the PNG. The largest centred square is cut into a circle with transparent corners, which most sites and apps display cleanly at any size.
Why are the corners of my circle black or white?
Transparency only survives in formats that support it. The download is a PNG with transparent corners; if a program shows black or white there, it is flattening the image onto a background.
Can I choose which part of the photo goes in the circle?
The circle is always centred. To frame a different area, crop the photo to a square around your subject first, then circle crop that square so the subject lands in the middle.
Does circle cropping reduce the image quality?
No. Pixels inside the shape are copied directly from the source at full resolution, and PNG is lossless, so the only change is that the area outside the shape becomes transparent.
