How the FBX Viewer works
This FBX viewer online opens rigged and animated models. FBX is the format that rigged and animated characters usually arrive in, from Maya, 3ds Max, Blender, Mixamo or a Unity asset pack. Drop one on this page and it appears in an orbit viewport with its textures applied and its animation playing, with wireframe, lighting and background controls and a PNG export at up to 4K. The file is read in your browser and never uploaded.
FBX viewer online: opening an FBX
Drag the .fbx file onto the drop zone or the viewport. Textures are often stored as separate
image files next to the model; drop them together with the .fbx and the page matches them by
filename, so a material that references body_diffuse.png finds the image of that name
whichever folder it came from. Some FBX files embed their textures, and those load on their
own. Binary FBX from version 6.4 onwards and ASCII FBX version 7 and later both open; older
ASCII files from the early 2000s report an error and need re-saving from a current tool.
Orbit with the left mouse button, zoom with the wheel and pan with the right. Fit view frames the model again if you lose it, which is common with animated characters that walk away from the origin.
Animation
If the file carries animation, every clip in it plays as soon as the model loads, driving the skeleton so that skinned characters move. Pause freezes the current pose, which is the way to set up a screenshot of a particular frame. Mixamo downloads contain one clip each, so the motion you see is the one you chose; a file exported from Blender with several actions plays them all at once, which looks wrong but still tells you the rig came through.
Shading, lighting and statistics
Shading draws the model with its own materials, as a wireframe, as a solid with wireframe overlay or coloured by surface normal. Lighting swaps between studio, soft, headlamp and unlit, the last of which shows textures with no shading at all. The rail lists file size, meshes, triangles, vertices, bounding-box size in the file's units (FBX defaults to centimetres, so a character is often 180 tall) and the material and texture counts. Download PNG saves the current view, with the chosen background, at preview, retina or 4K width.
What does not load
FBX is a large, closed format and no free reader handles every corner of it. Materials that use newer shader types such as Arnold or Stingray come through as plain grey, embedded videos are ignored, and rare compression settings can fail. If a file will not open here, export it as glTF from Blender and open that in the glTF viewer, which supports everything a web page can draw.
FAQ
Why does my FBX load grey with no textures?
The texture images were not dropped with it, or the material uses a shader the reader does not understand. Drop the .fbx and every image in its folder together. If they were already included and the model is still grey, the material is probably a renderer-specific one; re-export from your modelling tool with standard materials, or convert to glTF.
Does this play the animation in the file?
Yes. All animation clips play when the model loads and the Animation menu pauses and resumes them. Skinned meshes, bone transforms and morph targets all work. There is no timeline scrubber; pause when the pose looks right and download the PNG.
Why is the model tiny, huge or lying down?
FBX stores its unit and up axis in the file and the reader applies them, but exporters do not always fill them in correctly. Fit view frames the model at any size, and the size in the rail shows what the file actually contains so you can correct the export scale. A model on its side was exported with the wrong up axis; most tools have a checkbox for it.
Can I convert FBX to glTF or OBJ here?
No; this page only displays. Blender imports FBX and exports glTF, OBJ and STL for free, and the matching viewers here let you check the result. glTF is the best target for the web and carries animation; OBJ and STL drop the rig and keep only the mesh.
