How the GlTF / GLB Viewer works

This glTF viewer online opens GLB and glTF scenes with no upload. A glTF or GLB file is a complete 3D scene: meshes, materials, textures and often animation, in the format that web pages and game engines read natively. Drop one on this page and it opens in an orbit viewport with wireframe, lighting and background controls, plays any animation it carries and exports a PNG at up to 4K. The file stays in your browser.

GlTF viewer online: opening a file

Drag a .glb file onto the drop zone or the viewport, or click the zone to pick one. A .glb is self-contained, so one file is enough. A .gltf is a JSON file that usually points to a separate .bin buffer and image files for the textures; select all of them together (drag the whole set at once, or shift-click in the file picker) and the page matches them up by filename. If a texture or buffer is missing, the model still loads but shows grey where the texture should be, and the status line names what could not be found.

Once loaded, drag with the left mouse button to orbit, scroll to zoom and drag with the right button to pan. On a phone or tablet one finger orbits and two fingers pinch and pan. Fit view resets the camera so the whole model fills the frame, and Reset returns to the sample shape.

Animation, shading and lighting

If the file contains animation clips, all of them play at once as soon as the model appears. The Animation menu pauses them; use Pause to freeze a character in a pose before taking a screenshot. The Shading menu draws the model with its own PBR materials, as a wireframe, as a solid with the wireframe on top, or coloured by surface normal, which makes inverted faces and smoothing problems stand out. Lighting swaps between a three-light studio rig, a flat soft light, a headlamp fixed to the camera and Unlit, which shows the base colour texture exactly as stored with no shading at all. The ground grid is scaled to the model, and the auto-rotate toggle turns the model slowly for a quick look from every side.

What the statistics tell you

The rail lists the file size, the number of meshes, triangles and vertices, the bounding-box size in metres (the glTF specification defines the unit as metres, so a human figure should be about 1.8 tall), and the number of materials and textures. Triangle and texture counts are what decide whether the asset is light enough for a web page or a mobile game: a hero asset for the web is usually under 100,000 triangles with a handful of 2K textures. If the numbers are far higher, decimate the mesh and resize the textures in your modelling tool before shipping it.

Downloading an image

Download PNG renders the current view at the size chosen in the rail: the preview size, twice the preview for retina screens, or 3840 pixels wide for a 4K image. The background colour is included, so pick White for a product-style shot or Dark for something moodier. The image is built on your own graphics card and saved straight to disk; the model is never sent anywhere.

FAQ

What is the difference between glTF and GLB?

They hold the same data. A .gltf file is JSON text that references its geometry buffer and textures as separate files next to it, while a .glb packs the JSON, the buffer and the images into one binary file. GLB is easier to share because it is a single file; glTF is easier to inspect and edit by hand.

Why does my model load but appear grey or untextured?

Almost always because the textures were not dropped along with the .gltf file. Select the .gltf, the .bin and every image in the folder together. Draco-compressed and KTX2-compressed files need extra decoders that this page does not bundle, so a model that uses those extensions will report an error; re-export it without compression to view it here.

Can I view a glTF file without uploading it?

Yes, and that is the point of this page. The file is read directly from your disk into the browser's memory and rendered with your own graphics card. No copy is sent to a server, nothing is stored, and the page keeps working with the network switched off once it has loaded.

Why does the model look tiny or enormous?

glTF units are metres, and some exporters write centimetre or inch values without converting. Fit view frames the model whatever its size, and the size line in the statistics tells you the real dimensions so you can spot the problem. Fix the export scale in your modelling tool; the viewer never changes the file.

Does this play the animation in the file?

Yes. Every animation clip in the file starts playing when the model loads, and the Animation menu pauses and resumes them. Skinned characters, morph targets and simple transform animations all work. There is no timeline scrubber; pause when the pose looks right and download the PNG.
