How the GIF Maker works

This GIF maker turns a handful of images into a looping animated GIF. Select your photos, screenshots or drawn frames together, set how long each one shows and how wide the GIF should be, and download the result. Everything runs in your browser.

How to use the GIF maker

Choose all the images at once in the file picker, or drag them in together. They are sorted by file name, so name them 01.png, 02.png, 03.png and so on to control the order; numbers are sorted naturally, so frame-10 comes after frame-9. The animated preview updates as soon as you change a setting, and the download button saves it as a GIF.

Frame timing

Time per frame sets how long every image stays on screen. 500 ms gives a calm slideshow, 100 ms a flip-book, and 40 to 60 ms a smooth animation from frames drawn or captured for the purpose. Browsers will not show a GIF frame for less than 20 ms, which is why the slider stops there.

Size and mixed image shapes

The GIF takes the shape of the first image and is scaled to the width you choose. Smaller GIFs load faster and are friendlier to chat apps, which often cap uploads. If later images have a different shape, Fit whole image shows each one completely with the background colour around it, and Fill and crop fills the frame and trims the overflow from the edges.

Colour limits

A GIF can hold only 256 colours, shared across the whole animation. Screenshots, logos and illustrations convert cleanly. Photographs with smooth gradients such as sky or skin may show banding. That is the format's limit, not a fault in the conversion.

Private by design

Your images never leave your device; the GIF is built in your browser. For clips from a video use the video to GIF converter instead.

FAQ

How do I make a GIF from pictures?

Select all the pictures together, set the time per frame and the width, then download. Name the files with numbers first if the order matters, because frames play in file-name order with natural number sorting.

How many images can I put in a GIF?

There is no fixed limit, but each frame adds to the file size and memory use. A few dozen frames at 480 px is comfortable on most devices; hundreds of large frames can be slow and produce a very heavy file.

Why does my GIF look grainy or banded?

The GIF format can only use 256 colours for the whole animation. Photos with smooth gradients lose some shading when reduced to that palette. Flat graphics and screenshots are not affected in the same way.

Can I make a GIF that plays only once?

Yes. Set Loop to Play once before downloading. Most browsers and chat apps will then stop on the last frame instead of repeating the animation, though a few apps always loop GIFs regardless.
