How the Low Poly Generator works
This low poly generator rebuilds a photo out of flat-coloured triangles, the faceted geometric look used for posters, wallpapers and game art. Points cluster around edges so faces, outlines and horizons stay recognisable.
How the low poly generator works
The tool scatters points across your photo, placing more of them where the picture has strong edges. It joins the points into triangles using Delaunay triangulation, which avoids long thin slivers, and fills each triangle with the average colour of the photo underneath it.
Points and edge detail
Points sets how many triangles there are. The lowest setting is 100, so a smaller number is raised to 100. A few hundred gives a bold abstract look; several thousand keeps fine detail like eyes and text. Edge detail controls how strongly points are drawn to edges. At zero they are spread evenly; at 100 they hug outlines.
Outlines and seeds
Choose Thin white lines to show the mesh, a popular style for tech and crystal graphics. The Random seed changes where points fall, so try a few seeds to find the most pleasing arrangement.
Private by design
Triangulation and drawing run in your browser, and the photo is never uploaded.
FAQ
What is low poly art?
Low poly art comes from 3D graphics, where models with a small number of polygons look faceted. As a 2D style it means images built from visible flat-shaded triangles, giving a clean geometric, crystal-like look.
How many points should I use?
For a portrait try around 1,500 to 3,000 points with high edge detail. Landscapes look good at 800 to 1,500. Very high counts approach a normal photo, while low counts make striking abstract art.
Why is processing slower at high point counts?
Every new point reshapes the triangles near it, and every triangle is painted separately. The tool caps images at 1,600 pixels on the long side so even 6,000 points finish in a few seconds.
Can I get the triangles as an SVG?
This tool exports a PNG image. For scalable vector output, run the result through an image to SVG tracer, which works well on low poly art because every shape has flat colour and straight edges.
