How the Photo Collage Maker works
This photo collage maker fills a grid layout with your pictures. Pick a layout and the cells appear as pale rectangles. Press Add image and select several photos at once; they fill the cells in order, each scaled to cover its cell and cropped to it. Drag a photo to change which part shows — it stays clipped to its cell. Gap sets the spacing between photos and around the edge, Background sets the colour that shows through it. Add text puts a caption on top. Download PNG saves the finished collage at the chosen size; JPEG is smaller for messaging.
Photo collage maker: what it does and why
Two before-and-after photos side by side, four holiday shots in a square for Instagram, nine faces in a grid: a collage is just several pictures cropped to boxes. Phone apps do it with a watermark and an account; this page does it on a canvas in your browser, and the photos never leave your machine.
How the cells work. Each photo is scaled so it covers its cell completely, then clipped to the cell's rectangle. That means a landscape photo in a tall cell loses its sides, and you choose which sides by dragging the photo — it moves behind a fixed window. Photos cannot be rotated or resized in a cell, which keeps the grid tidy; if you want a photo smaller than its cell, crop it first with the aspect ratio cropper.
Order. Photos fill cells left to right, top to bottom, in the order the file picker returns them, which is usually filename order. To swap two, delete one (click it and press Delete) and add it again; it takes the first empty cell. Changing the layout re-flows the photos you have already added into the new cells.
Sizes. Square 2000 suits Instagram and general sharing; the landscape and portrait sizes are 3:2, the classic photo ratio; Story is 9:16 for Instagram and WhatsApp stories. The download is at the full chosen size whatever your screen shows.
Gap and background. A gap of zero makes a seamless mosaic; sixteen pixels of white is the familiar photo-print look; a large gap on a coloured background looks like a scrapbook page. The gap is applied around the outside as well as between cells, so the border is even.
Privacy. The photos are read from your disk by the page and drawn to a canvas; nothing is uploaded, and the download is composed locally.
FAQ
Can I have different-sized cells?
The "1 big + 2 small" layout has one large cell and two small. Other layouts are even grids. Photos can be dragged within their cell but the cell shapes are fixed for a given layout.
Why is my photo cropped?
Each cell is filled edge to edge, so any photo whose shape differs from the cell's is cropped. Drag the photo to choose the visible part. A gap of zero and matching photo shapes — four square photos in a 2×2 grid — gives no cropping at all.
What is the maximum number of photos?
Nine, in the 3×3 grid. Adding more than the layout has cells shows an error; switch to a larger layout first. For more than nine, make two collages and then combine them here as two photos side by side.
Will the output be sharp?
The collage is exported at the chosen size, up to 2400 pixels on the long edge, so each cell in a 3×3 square grid is about 660 pixels across. Photos are scaled down to fit, never up, unless they are smaller than their cell to begin with.
Is this free and watermark-free?
Yes. There is no account, no watermark and no upload; the page is the whole product. There is no account, no upload and nothing added to the image; the PNG you download is exactly what is on the canvas.
