How the Photo Date Stamp works

This photo date stamp tool prints a glowing orange date in the corner of your photo, the look of 1990s point-and-shoot film cameras. Use the real date the picture was taken, any date you like, or leave it blank for today.

How to use the photo date stamp

Choose a photo, type a date as YYYY-MM-DD or leave the box empty for today, and pick a format. The tool draws the digits in a seven-segment style with a soft glow, scaled to the photo's width, in the corner you choose.

Formats and colours

Film cameras usually printed 'YY MM DD, with an apostrophe before a two-digit year. European cameras often used DD MM 'YY and American ones MM DD 'YY. Orange is the classic colour, but yellow and red were also common on real cameras.

Getting the full retro look

For an authentic disposable-camera feel, add the film grain effect and a vignette afterwards, and keep the photo slightly warm. Placing the stamp in the bottom right matches most original cameras.

Private by design

The stamp is drawn in your browser, and the photo is never uploaded.

FAQ

Does the tool read the date from my photo's EXIF data?

No. Type the date you want in the box. You can find the original date in your phone's photo details or with an EXIF viewer, then enter it here in YYYY-MM-DD form.

Why does the year show as '98?

Film cameras had room for only a few digits, so they printed the last two digits of the year with an apostrophe. Choose the YYYY.MM.DD format if you want the full four-digit year instead.

Can I change the stamp size?

Yes. The size slider sets the height of the digits as a percentage of the photo's width, so the stamp looks the same on a small phone picture and a large camera image.

Is the original photo quality kept?

The output is a full-size JPEG of your photo with the stamp added. Re-saving as JPEG can slightly soften very fine detail, but at the default quality it is not noticeable.
