How the Side by Side Video Maker works
This side by side video maker joins two clips into one split-screen video, either left and right or one above the other. Add a label to each half, such as Before and After, choose the frame size and which soundtrack to keep, then download a single file to post anywhere. Nothing is uploaded.
What a side by side video maker is good for
A split screen lets viewers compare two things at a glance: an edit before and after colour grading, a dance and its tutorial, two takes of the same shot, a game on two settings or a product next to a rival. Because both halves play at once, differences in timing and motion stand out in a way that cutting between clips cannot show.
Left and right or top and bottom
Left and right suits landscape output, where each half becomes a tall strip. Top and bottom suits a 1080 × 1920 vertical video for TikTok, Reels or Shorts, where each half is close to a normal widescreen frame. "Fill (crop)" fills each half and trims the edges; "Fit (bars)" shows the whole picture with black or white space around it.
Labels, divider and sound
Labels sit in the top-left corner of each half on a dark tag, readable over any footage. Leave a label blank to hide it. The divider separates the halves; set it to 0 for a seamless join. Most comparisons need one soundtrack, so the first video's sound is used by default.
Just want to watch?
To compare two clips in sync without making a file, use compare two videos. This page renders a new video, which plays once in real time. The finished file is WebM in Chrome, Edge and Firefox or MP4 in Safari.
FAQ
What happens if the videos are different lengths?
The finished video runs as long as the longer clip. The shorter one freezes on its last frame until the end, which keeps the comparison visible. Trim the longer clip first if you want both halves to finish at the same moment.
Can I put more than two videos together?
This page joins exactly two. For three or four clips in a grid, use the video collage maker, which offers a two-by-two grid, one large clip with two small ones, and equal strips across or down the frame.
Will the two halves stay in sync?
Both clips start together and the page checks their timing on every frame, nudging the second clip back into line if it drifts by more than a third of a second. Clips with very different frame rates can still look slightly uneven.
