How the Teleprompter works

This teleprompter scrolls your script up the screen at a steady speed so you can read to camera without looking down. Paste the script, set the pace in words per minute and the text size, then press Play. Turn on the camera to record a take while it scrolls. Nothing is uploaded.

Teleprompter: reading without looking like it

A teleprompter keeps the words close to the lens so your eyes stay near the camera. Put this page in a window just under or beside your webcam, keep the text size large enough to read without leaning in, and read at the yellow line. Viewers see you looking almost straight at them.

Choosing a speed

Speed is set in words per minute, so it stays right however long the script is. Most people read aloud at 130–160 words per minute; 140 is a comfortable start. Presenters on news and explainer videos often run faster, around 160–180. Drop to 110–120 for careful, slow delivery. The panel shows the word count and how long the script will take at the current speed.

Mirror mode for glass prompters

A beam-splitter prompter puts a sheet of glass in front of the lens and reflects a screen lying beneath it. The reflection flips the text, so "Mirror for a beam splitter" reverses it here and it reads correctly in the glass. Use Full screen on a tablet or phone laid under the glass.

Recording a take

Press Start camera and allow access, and a small preview appears in the corner. Pressing Play then starts recording with the scroll; Pause holds both; the take is offered for download when the script ends or you press Restart. Takes are WebM in Chrome, Edge and Firefox and MP4 in Safari. Check your framing first with the camera framing guide, then cut the start and end with the video trimmer.

FAQ

Can I change the speed while it scrolls?

Yes. Move the speed slider at any time and the scroll changes straight away. Changing the text size keeps your place in the script, so you can adjust both mid-read without starting over.

Why does the camera not start?

The browser asks for permission the first time. If you blocked it, allow the camera and microphone from the icon in the address bar and press Start camera again. The prompter still scrolls without a camera.

Is my recording uploaded anywhere?

No. The camera stream and the recorded take stay in your browser. The file is only saved when you press Download, and closing the page discards it.

Can I use it with a remote or keyboard?

The Play, Restart and Full screen buttons work with the keyboard: Tab to a button and press Space or Enter. Many presentation clickers send keyboard presses, so they can trigger the focused button.
