How the Waveform Video works

This waveform video maker turns an audio clip into an audiogram: cover art, a title, and bars or a line that move with the sound, plus a progress bar along the bottom. Drop the clip and an optional picture, choose a style and size, and press Render. It is all done in your browser.

Audio does not travel on social media. A podcast clip posted as a still image is easy to scroll past, and most feeds play muted. An audiogram gives the eye something moving while signalling that there is sound worth turning on.

How the waveform video is drawn

The clip plays through your browser's Web Audio engine. An analyser node takes 2048 samples at a time and reports them 30 times a second. Bars show the frequency spectrum, with low notes on the left and highs on the right on a curved scale, so speech fills the width rather than bunching up. Line draws the raw waveform, the shape of the sound pressure itself. The picture, title and wave are painted on a canvas and recorded along with the audio.

Platform Frame Clip length
Instagram feed, LinkedIn, X 1080 × 1080 or 1080 × 1350 30–60 s
Reels, TikTok, Shorts, Stories 1080 × 1920 15–60 s
YouTube, websites 1920 × 1080 Up to 5 min

Tips and pitfalls

Cut the clip first. The strongest audiograms are one quote or hook of 20 to 60 seconds. Trim the audio before you start; the render runs in real time and the tool accepts up to 5 minutes.

Speech versus music. Bars suit music and lively speech. Line looks calmer and suits interviews and narration.

Contrast. Pick a wave colour that stands out from the background. White on a dark colour reads on every screen.

Captions. Muted viewers still miss the words. Burn subtitles into the result with the subtitle burner if you have a transcript.

FAQ

What is an audiogram?

An audiogram is a short video made from an audio clip, usually showing cover art, a title and an animated waveform. Podcasters and musicians use them to share clips on social networks that do not support audio posts or that autoplay without sound.

How long should a podcast audiogram be?

Between 20 and 60 seconds works best for most feeds. Choose one complete thought or quote that makes sense on its own. Longer clips lose viewers, and Stories cut off anything over 60 seconds per card.

Why does my waveform look flat?

Quiet recordings move the bars less. Normalise or boost the clip in an audio editor before making the video. Very bassy music may also bunch on the left; the Line style shows level more evenly.

Is my audio uploaded to make the audiogram?

No. The clip is analysed and recorded by your browser, and the picture is drawn on your device. Nothing is sent to a server, so unreleased episodes and tracks stay private throughout.
