How the Audio to Video works

This audio to video tool puts a still picture, or a plain colour, behind a sound file so you can post it anywhere that only takes video. Drop an MP3, WAV, M4A or OGG file and an optional image, choose a size and press Render. Everything happens in your browser.

YouTube, Instagram, X and most chat apps will not accept a bare audio file. Musicians posting a track, podcasters sharing an episode and teachers sending a recorded lesson all hit the same wall. The usual fix is a video with one picture for its whole length, which is what this tool makes.

How audio to video works

The audio plays through your browser's audio engine into the recorder while the picture is drawn onto a canvas five times a second. A still picture needs no more frames than that, which keeps the file small; the sound is recorded at your browser's normal quality. The render runs in real time, so a 4-minute song takes 4 minutes.

Picture size Best frame
Square album art 1080 × 1080
Landscape photo 1920 × 1080 or 1280 × 720
Portrait or phone image 1080 × 1920

Tips and pitfalls

Square art in a wide frame. Fit inside leaves bars at the sides in the background colour. Pick a colour from the artwork for a neat result, or choose the 1080 × 1080 frame.

Keep the tab in front. Browsers slow down hidden tabs, which can make the picture stutter or the render overrun. Sound is unaffected, but leave the tab visible until it finishes.

Length limit. Files up to 15 minutes are accepted. For a full podcast episode, export a shorter clip first with a clip cutter.

Do you want movement? A waveform video, or audiogram, adds bars that move with the sound, which catches more attention in a feed than a still image.

FAQ

How do I upload an MP3 to YouTube?

YouTube only accepts video files, so convert the MP3 to a video first. Drop the MP3 here with your cover art, choose 1920 × 1080 and press Render. Upload the downloaded file to YouTube as a normal video with the same title.

Why does it take as long as the song?

The sound is recorded as it plays, in real time, because browsers have no faster way to encode audio into a video file. A 3-minute track takes about 3 minutes. Keep the tab visible while it runs.

Do I have to add a picture?

No. Without one, the video is a plain colour background for the whole track. Choose the colour with the Background setting. A picture usually makes the post more recognisable when it appears in feeds.

Is my audio uploaded?

No. The audio and picture are read, played and recorded by your own browser. Nothing is sent to a server, so unreleased tracks and private recordings never leave your device during the conversion.
