How the Online Whiteboard works

This online whiteboard is ready with no account. A whiteboard that is ready the moment the page loads: no account, no invitation link, no app to install. Sketch a diagram, work through a sum, or plan a layout with a pen, a wide translucent marker or an eraser, on a plain board or one ruled with a grid, dots or lines. Undo takes back the last stroke, and when you are done the board downloads as a PNG for a slide or a chat, or as an SVG you can keep editing. Everything stays on your machine.

Online whiteboard: pen, marker and eraser

The Pen draws a solid line at the chosen size. The Marker is two and a half times wider and uses a lighter tint of the same colour, which makes it the tool for highlighting and for blocking in areas behind pen lines. The Eraser is four times the size and removes ink rather than painting white over it, so the grid or dots behind the board stay intact where you erase. Change the tool, colour or size at any time; the change applies to the next stroke and leaves what is already drawn alone.

Board styles

White is a plain board. Grid draws forty-pixel squares, useful for diagrams, floor plans and anything that needs straight, evenly spaced lines. Dots marks only the grid intersections, which guides alignment without cluttering a freehand sketch. Lines rules the board horizontally like a notepad for written notes and lists. The board style can be changed after you have drawn, since the ruling is a background layer that the strokes sit on top of, and it is included in both the PNG and the SVG download.

Downloading and sharing

Download PNG renders the board at twice its on-screen resolution, ruled background included, so it stays crisp when dropped into a slide deck, a document or a chat message. Download SVG writes the ruling as thin vector lines and each stroke as a path, giving you a file that can be opened in Figma, Inkscape or Illustrator and rearranged: individual lines can be moved, recoloured or deleted. To share the board with someone else, send them the file; there is no live collaboration because nothing here connects to a server.

Using it on a touch screen

On a tablet or phone the board fills the width of the screen and a finger or stylus draws directly; scrolling is suppressed while your finger is on the board so it does not drag the page. Turn the device to landscape for the largest board. Pens that report pressure are treated the same as a mouse here, so lines are a consistent width, which suits diagrams and handwriting better than a variable-width nib.

FAQ

Does the whiteboard save my work?

No. The board lives in the page's memory and is cleared when you close or reload the tab, so download a PNG or SVG before you leave. This is deliberate: nothing you draw is ever sent to a server or stored where anyone else could see it.

Can two people draw at the same time?

Not on this page. It is a single-user board with no server behind it, which is what makes it instant and private. For a live shared board you need a collaboration service; for a quick sketch to send to someone, draw it here and share the download.

How do I get a bigger board?

The board is sixteen by nine and scales to the width of the browser window, so widen the window or use a larger screen. Zooming the browser out with Ctrl or Cmd and minus also enlarges the drawable area, and the PNG is exported at twice the on-screen size regardless.

Why does the eraser leave the grid visible?

Because it removes your ink instead of painting over it. The ruling is a separate background layer, so erasing reveals the clean board underneath, the same as wiping a real whiteboard. In the SVG download the erased regions are written as white paths on top of the strokes.
