How the Receipt Generator works

This receipt generator turns a payment into a clean single-page PDF receipt marked paid, with the items, the amount, the date and the payment method. Fill in the fields and download it. There is no account and no upload, because the file is built by this tab alone.

What the receipt generator puts on the page

The receipt shows your business, who paid, a receipt number, the payment date and the method, then a table of what was paid for with the subtotal, any tax and the amount paid. A green PAID mark sits beside the title so nobody mistakes it for a bill.

Writing the items. Use one line per item with vertical bars: Buffet for 20 guests | 20 | 9 is twenty at 9 each, and Delivery | 15 is one charge of 15. The totals update as you type, so you can check the amount paid matches what you actually received before you download.

Receipt or invoice? An invoice asks to be paid; a receipt proves that payment happened. Many small sellers, sole traders and landlords are asked for a receipt after a cash or bank payment, and some customers need one to claim the cost back from an employer.

Keep your own copy. A receipt is also your record of income. Number receipts in order, keep the PDF, and note the receipt number against the payment in your books so each payment has a matching record when you do your accounts.

Nothing you type is saved in this browser or sent anywhere, so keep the downloaded file safe.

FAQ

What must a receipt include?

At the least: who was paid, who paid, the date, what the payment was for and the amount. A receipt number and the payment method make it easier to trace later. If you charge VAT or sales tax, your registration number usually needs to appear too.

Can I make a receipt for a cash payment?

Yes. Choose Cash as the payment method and enter the date the money changed hands. A dated receipt with an amount and a number is the usual proof of a cash payment for both the payer and you, especially when there is no bank record.

Should a receipt show tax?

Only if you charged it. Leave the rate at zero if you are not registered for VAT or sales tax. If you are, enter your single rate so the tax line appears, and add your registration number to the footer notes so the receipt is valid for the customer.

Is this receipt the same as a till receipt?

It carries the same facts as a till receipt, laid out on a full page. That suits services, deposits, rent and private sales, where there is no till, and customers who need a proper document for an expense claim rather than a thermal slip.
