How the Adventuring Party Name Generator works

An adventuring party name generator for D&D and every other fantasy RPG. Choose a heroic company name the bards will sing, a mercenary band name that sounds dangerous, or a funny party name for a group that keeps opening mimics. Every party needs a name the tavern can shout.

How the adventuring party name generator works

Party names come in a few classic shapes. Heroic companies take a noble adjective and a group noun, or name themselves for a place or an order, like The Silver Wardens or The Order of the Iron Rose. Mercenary bands sound rougher and often carry the captain's name, like Harrow's Free Swords. Funny names come from the table itself, with in-jokes about dice, loot and bad decisions. The generator covers all three so your party can choose a name that matches how it actually plays.

    Choosing a party name

Most parties pick a name after a few sessions, when they know who they are. Roll a few in each mode, read them out, and let the table vote. A name the characters would say with a straight face works best in play, even if the players laugh.

    FAQ

What makes a good adventuring party name?

A name that fits how the party behaves and can be said in character. Heroic parties suit noble names, mercenaries suit gritty ones, and a party of chaotic misfits deserves something funny. The best names are short enough that an NPC can shout them across a room.

When should a party choose its name?

Usually after a few sessions, once the characters have done something worth naming themselves after. A party name can also come from the world: an NPC or a rumour might name the group before they choose one. Rolling a list and keeping it handy lets you hand one to an NPC at the right moment.

Where do funny D&D party names come from?

From table culture: dice rolls, famous failures, the bard, and the running joke that adventurers are murder hobos. Funny names work best out of character, or in a lighthearted campaign. The Funny mode gives a mix of classic table jokes and new ones.

Can I use these names for a guild or faction?

Yes, though the guild page in the fantasy section is built for trade and thieves' guilds. Heroic company and mercenary band names work well for rival adventuring parties, knightly orders and sellsword companies in any fantasy world.
