How the Arena Name Generator works
An arena name generator for fighting pits, coliseums and tournament grounds. Arenas give fantasy fighters a stage, crowds a spectacle and schemers a place to settle scores in public. Pick a type and generate a name for the arena where your heroes win glory, gold or their freedom.
How the arena name generator works
Grand coliseums use imperial words, the Imperial Coliseum or the Marble Coliseum, for huge stone arenas built by empires. Fighting pits are grim and small, the Rat Pit or the Iron Cage Pit, for illegal fights in cellars and dockside warehouses. Tournament grounds are called Lists, the old word for a jousting field, the King's Lists or the Midsummer Lists, for knightly contests. Beast arenas are named for what fights there, the House of Claws or the Roaring Bowl. For the fighters themselves, try the gladiator name generator.
Arenas as adventures
An arena gives players a clear goal and a crowd to impress. Add a corrupt promoter and a secret rule, and it becomes a whole story arc.
FAQ
What are the lists?
The lists were the fenced field where medieval knights held jousts and tournaments. The word is still used in fantasy for tournament grounds, and it gives a knightly contest an authentic, historical feel.
What is the difference between an arena and a fighting pit?
An arena is usually large, public and legal, with seating for crowds. A fighting pit is smaller, often hidden and sometimes illegal, with rough fights, heavy betting and far fewer rules.
How do I run an arena adventure?
Give players a series of fights with rising stakes, a rival fighter and a reason to win, such as freedom, money or revenge. Crowd reactions and a scheming promoter add drama between the battles.
Can I use these names in my game?
Yes. The names are original and free to use in tabletop campaigns, fantasy novels, video games and fighting games. Pair them with champion names from the gladiator name generator to fill the fight card.
