How the Cypher System Name Generator works

A Cypher System name generator for games that work in any genre. In Cypher System-style play, each character is summed up in a single sentence, a descriptor, a type and a focus, and the game can run fantasy, sci-fi or modern stories. Generate character sentences, fantasy, sci-fi and modern names, and strange devices.

How the Cypher System name generator works

The Character sentence mode builds a full concept in one line, Juna, a Restless Wayfinder who reads the stars. Descriptors, types and focuses here are original examples in the same spirit. Fantasy, science fiction and modern modes give names for each genre. Devices get strange names like the Humming Lattice, for one-use gadgets and artefacts.

    One sentence, whole character

The sentence is the fastest way to pitch a character to the table. Start with it and fill in the rest later.

    FAQ

    What is a character sentence?

It is a one-line summary built from an adjective, a type and a phrase, like Cass, a Stubborn Brawler who never forgets a face. It tells the table who a character is in seconds.

Can the Cypher System run any genre?

Yes. The same core rules can handle fantasy, science fiction, horror or modern stories. That is why the generator offers names for several genres alongside the sentence mode.

    What are devices?

Devices are strange, often single-use objects with odd powers, like the Folding Key. Naming them makes loot feel mysterious and gives players something to wonder about.

Can I use these in other games?

Yes. The names and sentences are original and fit any genre game or story, whatever system you use, and the sentence mode is a quick way to pitch characters in any campaign.
